i cant seem to tag your name with the @ whats wrong there?? If you hover your mouse over her name in blue above her avatar picture, it gives you the name she signed up with. Being a fashionable mongoose she is always changing it, but her original one is mariemongoose which is the one you tag with @ - thus Is it spring yet, dormouse?Edit: I see you got it before I posted!!

We actually brought a small camping gaz stove last time intending to do this, but ended up using the gas hob in the camper because it was easier (and safer!) Has your van dried out yet, Anne? Ours has, but we've had a blow heater running after taking all the seating indoors. It was VERY extreme weather, so water ingress through those old windows was bound to happen. It was spraying into the van on the windward side from the bottom corner of one of our windows like a blooming bathroom shower every time there was a strong gust of wind - which was every few seconds! Must have rung several buckets of rainwater out of the towels I'd stuffed round the window to stop the worst of it! Trouble is, new windows would have to be custom made and would cost around £400 per window. Not really worth it for our old rust bucket Yeah van dried out now thanks Marie, also had blow heaters in there, but still leaking badly through back window, so got big sheet of plasic tied over the back now which is working well, going to try to reseal window with silicon before coming away for new year, but can always tied the shee on again if needs be, very handy having a roof rack and ladder, first time i have used it for anything! Srry you two not coming for New year btw

Yes, we'll miss Marie with the concertina and Neil with the organised song book But we should still have loads of people hopefully. Splitty is coming, so we won't be short of music and Anne has been practicing her singing too!

Just a suggestion Re. the leaky windows:- Completely empathise on not laying out loadsa money when the Van's old...! Howabout Self-Adhesive vinyl, as used for signwriting? Is available in clear on e-blag....I'll be getting some in NY & covering back window as crack is spreading!!
Looking forward to seeing Y'all at Shap!! Only 380 miles according to Sat-Naff!

Looking forward to seeing Y'all at Shap!! Only 380 miles according to Sat-Naff! I reckon your sat-naff lives up to its name, it needs a good kick up the ass! Bloody useless things they are... if you're coming from North London, it's no more than 40 from there to me and from mine it is about 255 to the Bothy, shortest route up the M1/M6. If you go by Shap it's a few extra but probably around 300 or less. Less than 300 via Kendall, but don't go that way. In any case, if it is 380, I'll eat my laptop

if it was me... coming from the south m6 you could use j36 a65 crooklands rd but then you do get kendal oneway which aint so bad really ....or id come off at j37 down the A684 sedburgh rd into kendal and turn right on sandylands rd follow it out onto.. nr a6 junction north....no?

That's shorter... true. I did come via Kendal last time J36, having no sat nav, just took a glance at the map and went for direct route. I went through about 6am in the morning though. I wouldn't fancy it at shopping and working times. In the day I'd go for J39 I think... but you know Kendal much better than me, is it busy in the Winter?

its pretty dead bud... peak times is summer... but j37 and into kendal that way sandylands rd misses out town centre and fetches you out just about on to the A6 you turn right bobs yer uncle.. im more than sure thtll be quicker than the m6 slog round ill eat a mince pie if its not

I would definitely avoid Kendal during working hours, what with it being the sales starting on Thursday, it's going to be pretty busy in town. It's easy to find yourself in a wrong lane on the one way system when it's busy and end up being forced to take a wrong turning particularly if you don't know it. Night time when the roads are clear is no problem.
But for the sake of about an extra 10 miles max, I'd definitely go for J39 and head south on the A6. Fuel wise, it probably works out the same after stopping and starting through Kendal. And then you'll get to pass the famous Heart Shaped Wood between J37 and J38 on the side of the Howgill Fells (right hand side if heading north). I'll tell you all about the local legends of it over a large Baileys at the bothy.
I'm loving my bongos, btw, I've spend a good few hours playing them today whilst watching the turkey cook.

The wind is too strong for me to risk going up to the bothy today and I would advise anyone thinking of traveling up there today to wait until the wind drops a bit.
I'm in Penrith and will stay here another night and hopefully if the weather improves, I'll be there sometime tomorrow afternoon to open up and get the place warm.
Stay safe everyone.

Setting off now, should be at Bothy before dawn. Will probably sleep in tomorrow up about mid-dayish Edit: Went through J21 M6 2.30am as promised. No messages, so kept going. Arrived at Bothy 4.30am. Driving conditions good. No wind to speak of. Some patchy rain north of Warrington. Conditions at bothy dry with some medium winds. Will sleep in tomorrow morning. Need to pop down to Shap to get some unleaded petrol for genny about midday. I may have lunch in the pub at Shap

No fuel at shap, either truckstop at J38 or Morrisons in Kendal unless you want to pay silly price at motorway services.
I'll be there about lunchtime.

Wot you lot like?! Splitty and Brenda are in a pub somewhere in Shap village, they're spotted Firefox going past in van and tried to get his attention. Hippy is on his way. He was heading up from Lancaster about half hour ago. Never knew Shap was so big!
