Just floating this to see if anyone going to Ribblehead for NY would like to meet before at Shap Bothy for 2 or 3 days? It would be on the basis of £5 PPPN to cover Bothy expenses, but we could bring our own drink/grub and we'd be saving after a couple of drinks rather than spending a lot at the Station Inn over a few days. Since I posted this lots of people would like to come so it is definitely on! WVW (Jess) is the point of contact for the Bothy. Please make contact with Jess and pay her on arrival. At the music meets, we had a sharing table going all the time, so please feel free to bring bottles of wine etc, soft drinks, nibbles and eats for an ongoing communal feast! Here is the Street View: goo.gl/maps/GaqMj And location on Google Maps: goo.gl/maps/SF6aHPlease do not use the postcode. Coming from the north or south, come off at J39 on the M6 for Shap. Follow the signs for Shap but instead of going to Shap, turn left (south) on the A6. Begin the climb to Shap summit on the A6. Just before the summit after going under the electric cables on pylons, you will see the Bothy on the west side of the A6. (See Street view and maps). If you start going downhill over the summit make a U turn (In my best sat nav voice!). Take care on the A6, people travel very fast over the summit, some doing 80mph plus. Please do not park in front of the bothy. There is very limited parking. Instead use one of the nearby large laybys on the A6 just south of the bothy. The most probable thing would be to move on to Ribblehead for 31/1st but those preferring a quieter environment could even stay on at the Bothy subject to it being available and arrangements with Jess etc. Post below if interested See this post from Jess for more instructions and housekeeping arrangements: freemotorhominguk.boards.net/thread/1751/ribblehead-meet-shap-bothy-2013?page=3&scrollTo=18796Possibles/Definites: Jess (Bothy Contact) Vernon Carol Barrie Splitty&Brenda luckyfish252+1 Onion Daisymini+1 Livotlout LotusAnne Brewkit&Elaine? Glenn&Jo? Gaz&Angie possibly? Tom&Josie MaryMC Edit: List Updated NB Not everyone is definite for all three or even one day, but if you might be coming I've put you down. Just getting an idea at the moment of what may be the maximum numbers.

I'll be around at the bothy then probably and happy to co-ordinate this one. Will speak to Bill about it and mark it as provisionally booked.

Would have loved to come to the recent music meet but had too much going on, we can make this one if there's room for us though Vern, can also bring a pan of the infamous chilli-gone-barmy to warm us up.

I've emailed Bill with provisional booking for 27 - 30th and possibility of staying on longer. As I said, I'm going to be around so I'll be the point of contact for this one.
Loads of space - I counted 10 vans in one layby on Sat night, with another 5 parked outside bothy and in the entry to the water board land, and there was space for at least another 4, plus the whole of the other layby, so easily space for 25 vans and still leave room for public, HGVs to park etc (though this is only occasional).
No beer or entertainment will be provided, but hopefully we'll all have our own.
I'll try to get a small camping gas stove set up in the bothy for heating soup, brewing up etc but depends if I can get the butane canisters cheap (difficult to find locally this time of year).

Cool, it looks like we will have enough for a small gathering from this forum, especially if a few others who haven't seen it yet come along! @wvw If you want to open it up on other forums, feel free I'll just be doing a thread on this one though, personally speaking. Heisenberg It would be marvelous if you could make it. Looking forward to more of your music over the New Year

I think I'd rather it be a small select group from this forum (no restriction on numbers) but am happy to offer it on WC if anyone particularly wants me to. Am going to be incommunicado for a few days from now on - off in the van to remote and distant lands (Northern Cumbrian Fells actually) - but should be able to get online at the weekend. onion, thanks for all the goodies you brought back from Kendal and for feeding us all on Sunday evening. The last inch or so of the Liquorice Sambucca is safely hidden away in my van so that I can make up for not being able to drink at the weekend, over the next couple of days Looking forward to seeing you all again very soon xx PS. The portaloo has been rebolted to the wall again...

I'd also prefer a smaller group just from this Forum, TBH. Could be looking at 12+ per night, on current numbers, just from here though I was going to suggest those 2 inch square metal washer plates for the loo to protect the plastic, but you've probably done something similar. Hope it's not as windy as that again! daisymini I'm coming from Chelmsford probably 27th or 28th. Could do convoy if you want

Could do convoy if you want Vern i would have done but i have two options 1: is head to norfolk for new year on way home from Colchester 2: if Geoff gets someone to look after Dean my step son then i will head up to Ribblehead but i will have to call in Cleethopres first to pick him up...so it would be best to meet you there..but thanks for the offer..xx

Yes, I don't fancy a Cleethorpe's detour Best way from the south is M1, M6 , then J39 on M6, double back down A6 to the Bothy. Via Kendal is shorter but longer in time. I also tried A65 and M1. Longer in distance and time but you keep moving and avoid M6 roadworks. Roadworks M6 J5-J6 closed at night, detour on local roads. Also very long annoying roadworks on M6 Stafford to Stoke, 50 limit. Hard shoulder closed, changing to managed motorway. M6 Toll avoids some problems, but I don't use that out of principle

A further 47 sets of roadworks and lane restrictions are due to be removed by 06:00 on Monday 23 December 2013 and will not be put back before 00:01 on Thursday 2 January 2014. Lane restrictions or temporary speed limits will need to remain in place at 21 locations for the safety of drivers and their passengers.

J10 - J13 works on the M6 are set to continue into 2015, while J5-J6 will continue into 2014. I doubt these will be removed over xmas as they are heavy steel barriers, not cones www.highways.gov.uk/roads

Well, hope you can make it!
10 vans at the moment - we have space for up to 25 as Jess says, so I'll put you down. Enough people will be around anyway.
Probably we only need to check on days and exact numbers when we start getting more than 20 vans.

Also well tempted!! This would be the furthest North that My Van has ever got!!.... Can't stay for NYE tho' as in Hinckley for that. May ask for a recommendation for a park-up roughly 1/2-way tho'?...
