Ooooo great - we missed Eileen Donan castle last year. So nearly stopped, but were trying to get over the Applecross pass before it got too late.
It's one of the best castles. Mostly rebuilt in the 20th C I think, but still very impressive.

A hiccup hit us at Spean Bridge. After a great few weeks of sheer madness and doggy fun Kaiser had a fit in the early evening. This we have come to expect once a month, unlike other times he had seven between 8.30 pm and 10.15 pm. Normally they are a couple of hours apart but these was very close together. I then thought he was over them but he had one at 6.45 am the following morning. After that he was his normal self until 4.30 pm when he started a sequence of fits that went through the night and it ended up with us all exhausted. In the end Kaiser could not stand and I carried him into the van and laid him on a bench seat where he just panted with exhaustion. We stayed with him until the early hours when we thought he was taking his last breath more than once. After every one had left Kaiser just slept making strange breathing noises and I tried getting bits of sleep on the bench opposite him. I am sure everyone of us was surprised that he was still with us the next day but still in very poor condition. Sandie and Alec started hunting for a vet on any device that could get a signal which was not easy. In the end they found the nearest two vets, one in Fort William one in Broadford Skye. As we was travelling north we plumped for Skye. Kaiser did not move on the 30 mile trip and was still asleep in the same position. when we got to Broadford me and alex carried him into the vets on a stretcher and laid him in a holding cage and he never woke up or moved once. That is where we had to leave him for the night for observation and made off to Tarskavaig beach ( I think) for the nights camp. Sandie did a great job of collecting wood and lighting a fire. It burnt well and we had a great night drinking with the midges for company and another couple of wild campers who joined us. It was probably a bit more sombre than it might have been with Kaiser on every bodies mind. The next morning after breakfast we headed back to the vets at Broadford and parked back in the Co-op car park. We headed to the vet on foot but saw him and a lady with Kaiser down a small country lane. We was surprised he was up on his feet, but he seemed to be asleep standing up. He did not recognize me or anyone else. I took him a little walk down the lane where he stopped for a poop. Has he doing his bit when he just slowly fell sideways into the long grass and went back to sleep. We stood him up and walked him very slowly back to his holding cage were he just went in and slipped on his side and went back to sleep. He was much improved on the night before but still very poorly. We went for a meal and talked about what to do next. It was decided that Sandie, Alex, and Rick would reluctantly carry on up north and spend the night at Shiedaig and I would stay here in the Co-op car park which has food, toilets, water, rubbish bins and free parking. If Kaiser is well enough to travel we will follow and catch up further down the line. I was going to go but it is a five hour round trip for one night as I would have to be back tomorrow. If the worst comes to the worse and Kaiser has to have his last sleep here he could not have picked a better place to bring an end to his short fun packed crazy life. He will be three on June the eleventh if he wins his battle. No matter what happens he has had a good few fun packed doggy adventures this last few weeks and with fingers crossed they ain't over yet. I don't know if I will be in a holiday mood if he don't make it and will probably stay here for a few more days deciding what to do next. Well that's about brought every thing up to date so far. One thing that worried me to death was if he had a fit on one of the ferries but for once in his life he never let me down and took it all in his stride. One thing I failed to mention earlier there is a pub a few yards away so its not all bad. Goodness a motor home has just pulled next to me and he has got his bloody genny going all ready, that's me definitely going to the pub and he ain't getting a FMUK card off me either. .... Tom ....

Tom I'm so sorry to hear about kaiser. Let's hope he recovers enough to have more fun times with you and the gang but it's always going to be a worry for you. At least you know he has had a great life with you so far, and hopefully it will continue. Hope you can enjoy the rest of your trip xx

Many a tear has been shed up here in the last couple of days, as you all know Kaiser has been a gentle dog, full of vigour, doining all the things that dogs do. Watching him the other night constantly fitting, you felt so helplesss seeing every ounce of energy being dragged from his body, and today seeing him so vacant with his head held low. Please spare a thought for Kaiser and Tom tonight. Three days ago behind the Ben :- ...Alec...

Sorry to hear about Keiser Tom, I hope you are ok. You all seem to be having a lovely time up there. Thank you Alec for the pictures, been to most of those places and it makes me feel like jumping into the van and joining you all. When are you coming back down through Cumbria it would be nice if you could call into Brampton on your way back down for a stop off.

Good luck and vibes to Kaiser.
Seeing any animal ill, in pain, suffering or fitting is always tough. I hope the vet can control the fits and keep him stable so he can either rejoin you on the trip or be waiting for you, in restored health, at the end of the trip.

Great pics again and you got that sunset over the cuillin! Any more pics when the sun was further down? This is such a good spot. So wish I could have gone on this convoy, we could have practised those numbers and be really knocking them out by now!
Any news of Kaiser?

Go for it John you are a star! Best thing is to get a message to Alec, but limited phone signal up there and no mobile internet too apart from hotel wifi (Although I did get a signal at Lochinver last year I think).
I'd imagine they will be at Lochinver or Kylesku Bridge area. I'll text as well and ask him to update. Hopefully one of us will get through.
