I'm surprised it is as much as 666 miles to Ullapool for you moonshadow. But that's 111 litres on your figures = £155 at £1.40 a litre so double that and add for touring and you'd be in the £450 range which is what I would expect. lotusanne Coast down from Applecross to Oban is good but not as wild as the top bit. I think my favourite bit is from Loch Torridon round to Applecross itself. According to my Ipad map thingy it is. It's about 240 miles to my brothers at Holmfirth so reckon the mileage is about right. We are going to have to give the matter some serious thought.

I was forgetting you moved down to South Coast? That adds another 60-80 miles. It is a real trek from the far south. I'm almost midlands only just over an hours drive from the NEC, so it makes quite a difference.

For me, worst part of Bealach is the approach from Applecross side of climb. That last wee bit, where you top out at viewing area, there's just something about it, which for me, has me praying for a clear road ahead!!
Rest is a dawdle.

I shall be going over the pass again in a week or so, snow permitting! Can't wait to get to the Inn and sample the Squat Lobsters.

Aye, the Squatties are brawe, I cringe when I see the price, same for clams, especially when I used to pick them up myself for free!!
How long you up for, Rob?

Probably about 10 days Terry, but may stay longer if Julie's health is OK. Looking at the dates, it's actually 2 weeks til we go, then shortly after arriving back from this one, I'll be off again on my own with the tent, (probably up to the Cairngorms for a week). Then in March, off to the Lochs (maybe Awe or Maree) with the dinghy. Then there is the May/June Alba convoy! As you can see, I quite like Scotland!

Sounds right Tom. Shouldn't be any extras unless they charge for dogs! (How is Kaiser?). You could always get Josie to hide in the loo while you're on the ferry. Yup it all looks good Rob. I forgot about fares for dogs, it did not mention them did it. Kaiser had another fit last week but he is OK at the moment. We paid £71 for a months supply of pills today for him. We could always get Jose to hide in the pier loos while we got the ferry. It sure looks like a good trip when we get going. Got to get rusty through the MOT first then me through the MOT as well for the over 70s license thing. I go on March the 6th for medical but even if that goes well it does not mean that DVLA will automatically accept it. I have done the eye test part of it at the opticians and that as gone well, so thats one foot on the boat. Still got yer Eciggy. .... Tom .... ....

To put it in context we're talking about a holiday (sometimes for two people) for two weeks in one of the most beautiful parts of the world! As usual us singletons pay a higher price! Hey Bluey why do singletons pay a higher price. I got to pay for two people on the ships. Perhaps you might like to take Jose on as a passenger and give my ears a rest. I could even end up paying for two people then she plays her joker and decides not to come so one wasted ticket. Can't wait for this trip . .... Tom ....

Yes I think that would be right and would cover everything. For me driver, and not exceeding 6m: £171 + 27.55 = £198.55 Lets go Vern, do you think the captain will let us have a fire pit on board . .... Tom ....

I took a fire pit along last year, and carried logs too, but we never used them. They kept on telling me it was too cold to sit out and have a fire!
As for the boat, the captain has yet to see my dodgy gas installation, and gas fridge permanently on, but I think I'll do him a favour and switch off the gas for the ferry trips.

My next meet Rob is Marks Whitewell station in Norfolk 4th to 6th of april if everything goes to plan. I can't make MTMs Severn Bore meet at the beginning of March, to much on that month. I am going to look at Carols blinds in her van in the near future so I will give her the ciggy as you are both on the MTMs Seven Bore meet and she can give it to you. .... Tom ....

......about three stone I reckon!.....weigh-hey! Less of it you. And stop winding up your Franglais mate! Hmmmmmm had to look Franglais up on wikipedia and ended up even more confused than when I didn't know what it meant. In English, Franglais means a mangled combination of English and French, produced either by poor knowledge of one or the other language or for humorous effect. Franglais usually consists of either filling in gaps in one's knowledge of French with English words, using false friends with their incorrect meaning or speaking French in such a manner that (although ostensibly "French") would be incomprehensible to a French-speaker who does not also have a knowledge of English (for example, by using a literal translation of English idiomatic phrases). Whats that about ?. Phew with all my years of knowledge I can only speak two languages Garbage, and Rubbish, and the above goes into both those categories and I still can't understand what its trying to tell me. Robert keep it simple for us oldies. Haaaaaaaaaaaa well back to our convoy. I was wondering about the size and perhaps when the early starters leave and then the not so early risers, then the late getter uppers like me it will break up into different groups anyway. If it is to big perhaps we could break up into threes and leave 10 mins apart that would stop too many vans in a line and we could all meet at the next destination. What do others reckon. ' .... Tom ....

Depends who we get in which convoy. Best to have the early risers and late risers in different convoys if possible. Any more than 5 or 6 in one group would be difficult to manage and also reduces spots you can use. Even if there is enough space in a car park, it is a bit unfair to fill it with say 9 vans and leave no space for the locals. That's when it can piss the locals off or turn them against motorhomes. Sometimes last year we set off not actually sure where we were going either. We could be a bit more organised, but it may depend on getting mobile phone signals which aren't always available.
