I've done it now anyway: freemotorhominguk.boards.net/thread/1912/scotland-convoy-date-pollBut basically if you ever want to do a poll you just click "add poll" button when posting a new thread. Beware though, you can't go back and edit the poll once it is posted, if you make a mistake. This to prevent perverting the course of justice, and applies to all members, even admins! To make changes, you have to delete the poll and repost the new one.

Just spotted this, been up to our ears and still are, with stuff and have not done much forum surfing. This looks a lovely trip. As to activities not much walking for me unless they cure my back by then, but up for moderate sightseeing, bbq, communal activities or just chilling with a book. Anyone any idea of the cost of all this, ie ferries? Would have to sweet talk our new neighbour into cat sitting for 3 weeks. Where will the initial meet up be.? Sorry am sure you all know these answers but have looked through the thread. Also Martin needs to do a medical in April, that over 70 thing!

And you can do as much of the trip as you want to, or break away and do your own thing if you particularly wanted to see something and you can always rejoin the group later. I've not priced the tickets as yet, but Terry (Runnach) will probably be able to advise. Julie and I are going up several times this year, (starting in about a week and a halfs time). Not sure if you and Martin have been to the West Coast before, but I know you would love it! I would imagine the meet up would be somewhere north like Tan Hill or Ribblehead, but nothing has been decided yet. Half the fun is in the planning, as you know!

Hello all,
I have also just spotted this, not having logged in here for an age. Please count me in to joining a group trip to Scotland. I was hoping to do a trip up West Coast this year, but would have had to do it alone if in May or June, which I am told are the best months for missing the mosquitoes. I need to be back for the 24th May, but June's pretty free. Sandie

You'd be welcome Sandie and Sue Last year I did about 1800 miles and spent about £350 on diesel. But I think most people will spend the best part of £500. The ferries can be quite expensive, but the best deal is maybe an island hopping ticket which will do three or four hops for one price. Depends on length of motorhome too. But other than the diesel, it's cheap because no site fees or hotels. We only used one campsite last year. The same living costs as you normally have with maybe the odd extra bottle of wine As for meeting up, we went via Doodle's birthday party near Newark last year, but Ribblehead or Tan Hill sound as good as any for this year. Maybe Tan Hill this time, as we did Ribblehead at NY and there is another meet there soon.

One plan was to go Torridon, Applecross, Skye, Oban (maybe take in a trip to Mull), then do Island hopping Islay, Kyntyre, Arran, Ardrossan. www.calmac.co.uk/tickets/island-hopping/hopscotch-17-arran-kintyre-and-islay.htmYou can see the price varies according to length. My van at 5.4m gets away with £171 but an 8-10m van is £280 so that is quite a price hike. Also, I think it is £27 per person on top of that, so it's maybe £200-£300 in ferries, if we go that type of route - certainly a major cost on top of what we did last year.

If that is too much financially, we could just do Skye, there's lots of it and it's free to get there over the bridge. I do want to go to loads of the Hebrides, but I can do that whenever. I suppose we can plan routes, once dates are agreed. Sounds like a mini - planning meet required.

I'd be keen to do some Islands, as I don't get too many opportunities. Would definitely look at South Skye.
Going to Applecross and down would save some diesel, as would coming down partway on the ferry. I could probably restrict diesel to about £275 with maybe £200 ferry costs so £475 overall

Have I got that right and would that cover all the ferry fares or would there be extras.

Yes I think that would be right and would cover everything.
For me driver, and not exceeding 6m: £171 + 27.55 = £198.55

Sounds right Tom. Shouldn't be any extras unless they charge for dogs! (How is Kaiser?).
You could always get Josie to hide in the loo while you're on the ferry.

And then I looked at the mileage, 666 miles for us to get to Ullapool, at 6 miles per litre I am too scared to do the maths on that!

To put it in context we're talking about a holiday (sometimes for two people) for two weeks in one of the most beautiful parts of the world! As usual us singletons pay a higher price!

MOney may be an issue for me too Sue and Tom but there is also the cheaper option of driving across to Skye and not doing the island hopping. The West coast is stunning , and well worth seeing. We did from Applecross all the way up and across the North last year, but I have been told that the part below Applecross, North from Oban is even better!! IT may be that as well as an early riser/ candle burner difference we have the financially challenged and the not quite so! With the amount of interest so far we will have to split up anyway, so the FC could maybe band up for the cheaper option. Having said that I would LOVE to do the Outer Hebrides, some friends went last SEptember for a month and they loved it, hardly saw anyone, even had their portaloo sitting outside the van!! BUt don't think we have to decide now anyway, these decisions can always be taken at the time

I'm surprised it is as much as 666 miles to Ullapool for you moonshadow. But that's 111 litres on your figures = £155 at £1.40 a litre so double that and add for touring and you'd be in the £450 range which is what I would expect. lotusanne Coast down from Applecross to Oban is good but not as wild as the top bit. I think my favourite bit is from Loch Torridon round to Applecross itself.
