Bring waterproof thermal knickers, its a bit wet and windy up here Lol, it always is, as Gaz says, even in the summer. My waterproof thermal knickers are in constant use all year round (and no comments about Tena Lady's please!). Although strong winds are forecast for tomorrow day, they are (in theory) going to drop by night time and the forecast is saying only "occasional light showers" so hopefully the fire will go ahead. Firefox - just be glad you're not one of the HGVs which used to have to struggle up and down on a daily basis before the motorway came. There's a couple of DVDs in the bothy about the olden days (on the shelf downstairs with the books) - one is called the Story of Shap (about an hour) and the other has 3 shorter films on it, one of which is called the Fish Run and describes the regular trips over Shap bringing fish south from Scotland. Both are worth a watch (I got them specially to keep you lot amused if the weather is vile over the weekend) - there is a DVD player and projector upstairs so all you'll need is a laptop to watch them - Bill will set up for you or I can do it tomorrow. There's various other DVDs there too which I've donated and some books and local maps. I shouldn't really tell you this but if you don't get a chance to watch the DVDs you can copy them onto a hard disk, they're not copy protected, so you can watch them another time. Marie knows where the bridle path is for the dog walkers - it's the original route of the A6 and will, after 3 or 4 miles, take you to the local posh spot, the Shap Wells Hotel. It's a decent track although a bit muddy this time of year. If anyone wants me to pick up emergency supplies of milk, fags, newspapers, chocolate, hangover tablets etc from Truckstop on the way up tomorrow, just drop me a post here. I'll be up sometime in the afternoon, still haven't unpacked / cleaned / repacked the van yet. I can bring extra water too if it's needed. Do we need some new batteries for the Xmas tree lights? Don't forget to ring Shap Chippy tonight and pre order meals for tomorrow night if it's a big order - I called in last Friday and their elec had been off for 24 hours so they were panicking a bit about having enough stock for the weekend, and it's a 30 mile round trip for them to Penrith if they need extra supplies. It's not unusual for our elec to go off in bad weather. For anyone interested, there is a memorial stone in one of the laybys which you may want to check out. And if you feel so inclined, feel free to leave a few pennies in a jar in the bothy for the Memorial Trust which maintains the stone and pays for a weekly litter pick in the laybys. I know the lady who runs the Trust very well and will make sure that any donations go to her. I've offered to do a regular litter pick in the area of the bothy and the little pull in opposite which does get very littered. And yes, Vern, feel free to use my violin. It's probably desperately out of tune, not been touched since June :-( My tune book is there too and also a clacky thing and a jingly thing which someone might like to play with.

gaz, if you're free on Monday night, you'd be welcome to come to the Full Moon Club, it's a local band playing, the Windy Bottom Boys, also known as the Wierdstring Band - fiddles, guitars and strange hats but lots of fun. It's only just over half an hour from Carlisle, less if you put your foot down so you'd only have to get up half an hour earlier for work on Tues morning... Are you only 29???!! Or is it a typo and it's a surprise 50th, not a 30th? Anyway whatever, have a good time and do try to come down for Monday night.

gaz (and anyone else who wants to come along) - all details about Full Moon Club on Mon 16 Dec should be here... (if the link works) www.georgelloyd.com/images/FMC/Wierdstring%20%20Full%20Moon%20Newsletter.jpgJust turn up, or come on Sunday and stay over if you want and you're free on Monday as I think there might be some folk staying on - I'll let you know for definite tomorrow once I get there. Bill passes a hat round for donations for the band after they've finished playing so stick a fiver or so in your pocket. Be warned, for some strange reason, the Full Moon seems to cause people who don't usually get drunk to get absolutely s**t-faced

What a wonderful night! Great music all round. And we even got to try out most of the wild camping songbook too. Thanks Jess and Marie for all the organising, Neil for great work with the music, Billy for pro Banjo, Marie again for the soup, eats, and concertina. Lastly thanks to the wild camping choir, I think everyone managed to sing or have a go at something

Voice is croakin from all the singin last night. Fingers sore from playin. It was loud and lively as soon as we arrived in the afternoon right thru to 2 in the mornin. Marie got the soup on and organized most and we got to meet more camping nutters, including a fair share north of the border. Chillout room was used upstairs this time for, er, chillin out.

I know how Santa must feel. Got no heating in the van cos the wind keeps blowing the gas out. If we park other way the horizontal rain will come thru fridge vent and soak seating so catch 22 Time to head inside to the Bothy I think it's nicely warmed up in there now

Bathed, dressed, and pile of stuff ready to be loaded in van - have been dashing around thinking it was about 4pm, only to have just discovered that it's only about 2.30 :-) makes a very pleasant change to be an hour and half ahead instead of behind.
But... the wind is absolutely howling so I'm going to sort the van out leisurely over the next couple of hours in the hope that it might drop a little before heading up, don't fancy driving in this. Once parked up, I'll be ok but it's gusting really badly along the M6 Tebay gorge corridor and this is the kind of weather that lorries go over in.
To watch a dvd you need to do the following :
locate the 4 plug extension socket (it may be in the suitcase or under the table)and plug in (to the socket marked 240v, you may need to unplug the lamp) for all the various bits of kit
plug the DVD external drive into a laptop / tablet which has DVD software, this isn't necessary if the laptop has a disk drive
connect the projector (which can be found in the suitcase) to the DVD drive and/or laptop and switch on - lead should be with projector in suitcase - unless it's an old laptop with old operating system, it should all just plug and play
set it all up on the little table with projector facing the flat wall which is the side of the staircase, you may need to put a DVD case under the projector to lift it slightly, and twiddle with the focus button to get a good picture. You may need to move the projector forwards or backwards slightly to fit the picture on the wall.
connect speakers to the laptop and plug into extension socket (Neil is good at untangling these - the wires always end up like spaghetti) and make sure they are switched on
move various cushions to make yourself comfy, crack open a beer, then sit back and enjoy :-)
see you in a couple of hours, perhaps a bit sooner if the wind drops
