I thought I would add my 5:2 diet blog here. As good as anywhere, and facebook posts tend to get buried whereas here, at least I know where it is!
If you don't know the diet, you are supposed to have 500/600 (F/M) cals for a couple of days a week. Then eat normally but sensibly the rest of the week.
So last week I did fasts on Tuesday and Thursday and managed 800 and 500 calorie days (it's supposed to be 600 for guys as I said, but I'm not getting anal over it)
Today is another fast day.
So far I have had
1 orange (100 cals) 1 sachet of oats (100 cals) 2 packets of biltong dried beef (200 cals) 1 grapefruit (100 cals) 1 pot of Morrisons Fragrant Thai Carrot Soup (240 cals)
That's 740 cals... a bit over.
I really should not have had the soup just now, but I was getting quite light headed and no energy, so there you go. Now what I have to do is get to bed quick before I eat any damn more!!!

Good Luck with it M8! Watch out for the light-headedness etc. I used to get like that in the old (keen!) days when I'd rush from one Job to the next & then realise that I had n't eaten all Day! Drink loadsa water!

Cheers! Yes I am trying to drink about two litres of fizzy water a day. I find the fizz helps fill me up better. Also the odd cup of coffee (no milk/sugar).

Sleep is a great way to aid dieting……. until one night I woke up a 3am Starving, and tore the house apart looking for Any type of food! LOL I also find brushing teeth with strong toothpaste great for ruining the appetite Good luck Vern

…. thinking about it…… it's only 9.30 AND that's even 8.30 in old money, so there's no way you are going to bed at this time

Just had two 10 cal Hartley jellies. That's 760, gulp! Right off to bed for me now! Just a minute young man! What happened to the daily vigourous excercise required for this weight loss regime? Get out on that five mile run.... this minute!.....Or the indoor equivalent

760 calories?! I won't admit how many multiples of these I consume daily, but I certainly couldn't remain upright on just 760!

I find it difficult to cook properly in the week in the day due to work. Same with exercise. If I was a person of leisure I'd be fit as a fiddle But I'm going to do stair climbing again. Mon/Wed/Fri. Not on fast days. Thanks for tip about zero noodles. I have heard of them so will give a try. I think they can be jazzed up with herbs and spices etc! It was really difficult to get to sleep last night. I was turning over and over for a couple of hours. I usually go straight off. Hopefully that will get easier.

My sister has been doing this 5:2 thing for nearly a year now. She doesn't get anal about it either, but she's lost loads of weight and is fit as a fiddle. If she misses a week she doesn't get fussed, but what she does do is eat the same foods on the days when she is fasting so she doesn't have to think about what to have to eat. She has: porridge in the morning with added sunflower seeds etc., as much tea/coffee (without milk) as she likes throughout the day and a chicken stir fry in the evening made with whatever veg she has in the house at the time. She absolutely SWEARS by this "diet"! It's a SLOW BURN (or lifestyle) diet, which is exactly right - if you lose weight fast, you put it back on fast...

Try a banana at bedtime save your calories for it It takes a while for the body to adjust to no sugar coffee ect it's all meant to be difficult ;( I always have coffee without sugar so I don't think that's a problem, but what likely is a problem is the lack of a nightcap of 2 or 3 beers. Beer always sends me to sleep!

Love food of any kind and excessive eating has always been my weakness. Then some years ago, a friend pointed out that if I burn more cals then I eat I would. Not. Put on weight. Knowing that I could not stop eating excessively, turned myself into an exercise freak and kept body weight relativelyy normal. The problem now. Is that I am much older, will power is weak and. Body is worn out. And cannot do the erercise as much.So is downhill gradually now
Vern, keep going, my very best wishes.

Cheers Goldfish Stair climbing is relatively stress free for an older body. Yes I know that herbal remedy. I'm going to wait till Easter to apply that. OK, I weighed myself today just now; 14 stone 8 lbs. I need to be around 12 stone so about 2.5 stone to lose.

Lunch: 1 sachet of Quaker oats so simple. Tablespoon of dried tarragon. Desert-spoon of dried ginger or turmeric (other herbs/spices can be used to taste). Ground black pepper to taste. Mix together dry ingredients. 3 desert-spoons of boiling water with 10 drops of Maggi liquid seasoning or dark soy sauce to taste. Mix in with oats and spices to form patty. (Amount of water is critical - a little too much and it will be a goo, too little and it won't clump into a nice patty. Experiment with your particular desert-spoon!) 100 cals
1 Whole Medium Grapfruit (including pith) 80 calories
2-3 glasses of fizzy water
Plenty of fibre in the oats and grapefruit to keep going all afternoon and only 180 cals!

Hi Vernon I think you need to include more foods that will provide you with nutrition, you seem to be getting quite a lot of empty calories in your diet. Maybe porridge made with skimmed milk it provides slow release carbs that will keep you feeling fuller longer. Maybe veg soup for lunch homemade if possible using low carb green veg instead of higher carb root veg. Or Ratatouille with peppers courgettes tomatoes garlic and onion with maybe some lentils or kidney beans for extra protein. omelette (2 eggs about 140 calories) with mushrooms. spinach or asparagus. For your evening meal chicken or fish with more steamed or stir fried veg. I think you should have low calorie yoghurt instead of the jelly. Good Luck with your diet.

Good tips - I have problems cooking anything in the day though, as I am at work 10 hours from 10 morning till about 8 evening usually. Unless I go back to the van which is 10 mins walk away.
So I'll try some of those on non fast days (Which is usually 5 out of the 7). I'm going to be eating normally (but healthily) from Fri to Mon and usually Wed too, so I will get lots of nutrition on those days hopefully.

The Big Sis says eat and drink whatever you fancy on the 5 days, but stick to the diet on the other 2 days. I know it doesn't sound like it should work, but it really does!

Vern get man flu, I have had it all week. Three lemsips a day. 4 doses of cough medicine. loads of tap water. I should be about 3 stone on that but I am sure I've put weight on or perhaps I just feel bloated with whatever I got. Good luck with your diet I know how hard it is to keep to. By the end of it you should be like a Gypsies dog all d..k and ribs . .... Tom ....
