Taunton update - It's bladdering down, as they say oop norf. Looking on the bright side it'll save me getting the ladder out to wash the panels. (They do need cleaning quite often to get the best out of them)

Cold frost last night, it must have been minus two. A real windscreen scraping job this morning. No de-icer in stock and I can't reach half of it either!

Yes we had the fog too. Top end of Royston is 300-350 feet up. Quite low hills, but it can make a degree or two difference at times. Therfield Heath nearby is over 550 ft I think. Someone told me it is the highest point between here and the Ural mountains. You go out over the fens then the NL then the North German plain, then the Steppes, Moscow and it's the Urals next stop.

They had quite a few of those wood gas vehicles in the 1940s when petrol was short: No doubt we will go that way again if there is a fuel crisis.

Ahh woodgas. The new camping stove I have just ordered is a woodgas stove, runs for an hour and a half on a couple of handfulls of wood pellets (cat litter!), or you can just fill it with twigs/pine cones etc. Perfect for getting me big kettle going (which I haven't ordered yet! (will wait 'til Julie's asleep)).

Don't want to spoil the gal.

A wheelbarrow might be good for birthday as we do not want women playing around with boys toys like sds drills ? They kick like mules when the clutch fails ! Many a broken wrist and you would not want that ? How would she load the washing machine or make your sarnies ?

Is the wheelbarrow to fetch Rob back from the pub? Life: unfinished threads in a never-ending tapestry I was actually delivered home from the pub once in a wheelbarrow Marie, 1986 when the world cup was on and 2 gypsy blokes found me asleep in the snow behind the pub. They sat me in a wheelbarrow, wheeled me a mile home, rang the doorbell and ran! Julie answered the door to find me asleep in the wheelbarrow and she could see them running up the road! They probably saved my life. I did buy them a couple of beers the next day.

Very windy here now, and it's started raining. It's lashing down here and wind is really picking up 40+ mph at the moment, I'd say. It's supposed to be causing travel chaos across the south and also north later today, so if you have to travel, try to do so quickly if possible.
