Wild wet and windy in Penrith - anyone travelling on M6 over Shap, take care, strong gusty winds, perfect weather for blowing over high sided vehicles.

It was really windy and slamming the rain horizontally at the windows an hour ago.
Reminiscent of Shap summit last year but that lasted 48 hours there! It's now calmed down a little here.

I am three floors up - but bright sunshine now. Still some clouds, but it couldn't be more of a contrast to this morning.

More snow tonight. 1-2 inches and settled with more blowing in now, and also drifting a little.
Had somewhat of a hair raising journey home. Just managed to get it up the steepest hill in town, and brake it on the engine to give way at the bottom of the next hill. Anti lock brakes were coming on at the slightest touch.
Then easier progress on the rollercoaster of the A505 at 30-40 using the momentum to get it over the hills with a bit of slipping at the crests. Got overtaken by an idiot doing over 60mph in the fast lane in virgin snow! I'm not sure how he thought he was going to slow at that speed as foot braking was almost non existent. Only careful anticipation and engine braking would work.
These are the guys you see upside down in the ditch the next morning, causing yet more chaos as people slow down to rubberneck at the wreck!

Last week's snow now frozen solid in Penrith and at home and its been about minus 5 past few nights with lovely sunny days. Solar panel was charging at 16v today Google says it's minus 1 where I am tonight but I'd put it a few degrees colder than that. Lovely clear sky and bright full moon. It'll be firkin freezing a top of Shap fell tonight.
