Hi, I haven't been to a Ribblehead meet before. Can you give me an idea of what it is like/what's there? Is there water avalable, a pub nearby, reasonably firm ground to park up on ? Thanks ,Sandie All of the above ! Choice of using pub carpark or track to old quarry opposite station but both are hardstanding . Pub are good as gold and allow water to be used also emptying of toilet in septic tank . The horizontal rain is an added bonus too !

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE RAFFLE MUCHLY APPRECIATED FOLKS! I can offer a personalised fire written wooden spoon again, I'm sure Onion will vouch for my skills. Where's the proceeds of the raffle going to? If it is for this forum, we need to make that clear to everyone as there'll be members from both forums. I don't think we could mention it on WC nor should we if it's just for forum funds. However, it would be good to perhaps split the proceeds, say donating 50% to charity, and as the meet has been organised by N8rbos, I think he should decide what the charity should be. I may do some "Ribblehead March 2014 - wild and free motorhomers united meet" souvenir spoons to sell if anyone is interested. Approx cost £4 depending on what the spoons cost me to buy. If anyone would like one, let me know over the next week so that I can pick up some spoons.

Yes, sorry Tony, I don't think we could mention it on WC4MH as Phil has censored this forum, and he doesn't like people mentioning other forums. As he pointed out he is running a business and Tesco would not, for example, put links or adverts up in its windows for "rival" stores, so we just have to take note and respect that.

I don't mind donating money to charity but we are a new forum trying to gather some funds together. I don't know the financial position of the other forum involved. If it becomes a problem, or complicated we don't need to do it and just do them at FMUK meets?

I don't have a problem with raffles, nor should it be a problem for anyone else. You can donate/buy tickets or not, it's a free choice. This is not a big issue, but perhaps needs clarification from the off so there is no subsequent confusion, misunderstanding, fighting, falling out and sulking! If there's any eggshells, I'm the one to trample all over them! A raffle has been mentioned as a good idea on THIS FORUM, not others (!), and members of this forum are happy with the idea, so end of story. As far as I'm concerned it's FMUK members who are organising the raffle, therefore funds should go to FMUK as the precedent has already been set i.e. the Christmas Bothy meet at Shap. Absolutely no problem with donating half the proceeds to a charity as well, if that's what folk want to do, but the raffle should only be mentioned on here and definitely not be advertised on WC4MH! The fact there happens to be an "arranged meet" on a particular weekend at this very popular and flexible venue where all are welcome, whatever forums they do or don't participate in, is sort of irrelevant, if you see what I mean? Also, don't forget there is always Private Messaging (on both forums!) if anyone wants to arrange other extra-curricular stuff without broadcasting it to the world - e.g. dogging, wife swapping, etc. etc. JOKE !!!!

I agree. Why does it need to be complicated? And I think the issue of donations is being complicated too. If I contribute a donation I don't think it's up to me what it gets spent on. Unless it's a knees up for the mods! Keep it loose, keep it simple! Ps think I'm suffering from uniform syndrome or whatever the correct term is.........think I'm getting involved in this cos I'm the money holder! Sad or what? ?

I. Apologize for suggesting letting wc4mh members attending know about the raffle. There's folk from @6 clubs/forums attending, this meet started out inviting folk from everywhere to attend and hopefully harmonize.the reason i did'nt suggest raffles and the like was so folk attending did'nt feel compelled to spend monies they don't have, i have however suggested an optional £1 donation per person for the mountain rescue.if you do decide to have the rraffle and contribute a % to the m.r. Charity I'm sure it will be greatly received. I have organised this meet for all to mingle not to have us/them and clicks if that makes sense.theres a few newbies and it would be nice for them to have a nice experience.. Tony

Hi Tony don't worry, there won't be any us/them! I'm only a member of 2 forums and make no distinction when on meets! More than happy to make the contribution to Mountain Rescue. Looking forward to meeting you and others. Let's hope the weather is kind and if it isn't, we're wild campers, we can live with it!

I suggested a donation out of any raffle proceeds as we will not be paying for accomodation saving most people at least £15. And although we will be putting money behind the bar in the pub, we will not be contributing anything else to the local economy, or very little. As it stands there could be over 20 motorhomes parked up at the weekend and certainly this is a considerable number and could well alarm the locals, railway officials, national park authority etc. By making a donation to a (preferably) local charity, this demonstrates our appreciation of this facility and could well disperse any anxiety as to the sudden influx of such a number of vans, which will mean that there won't be much if any parking for anyone else wanting to use the quarry car park over the weekend.
I don't think this is unreasonable or complicated, particularly in view of the fact that N8rbos originally suggested making a donation to a charity such as the local rescue team. As he is the one who has organised the meet and it was his suggestion initially, I feel that it is only fair that he be the one to nominate the charity if it is decided to make a donation to charity from the proceeds of the raffle.
My only concern with the raffle and I'm sorry if this wasn't clear in my post, is that this meet is not just for FMUK members, and there will be WC members there who are not members of this forum, and possibly people who are not members of either forum. If we are going to be doing a raffle and all the funds are for this forum, this needs to be made VERY clear to avoid any problems.
I'll shut up now - I'm not bothered either way, I just wouldn't want there to be any hassle about a raffle only raising funds for FMUK.
And even if no-one else does, I'll be putting some money in the charity box in the pub as an acknowledgement of gratitude for a couple of free nights in a lovely spot in the hope that it may help reduce prejudice and resentment of motorhomers having a free holiday and taking over the car park for the weekend.
