Yes we can have another raffle There is a car park further up the road marked with the viewpoint sign on the OS map (the blue wedges) We may have to congregate where we can find a space in the area, but the walkers won't stay all night, hehehe, so when they go we then can nab the better spots

There are loads of spaces and quite a few car parks and this time of year it's only the area near the pub that's busy. Good views over the Somerset levels.

I'm just hoping that the weather stays mild! I've only ever driven My Vito up that bloody hill...the Camper will struggle! Ice? No Way! (I know there's another Route in but doubt Memory would co-operate!!!)

Helloooo I'm neeew Rubbertramp put me onto this site. I'm hatching a plan to join you tho for my first wild camp . It looks easy enough to get to (as opposed to some festies I've driven to in Somerset in my old slightly difficult to manage at times converted horsebox!). So hopefully say hi there

Look forward to seeing you! Ham Hill Road, Stoke Sub Hamdon, Somerset TA14 6RW That should takes you up the Hill Road, you may need to go a bit further for the car parks. goo.gl/maps/XCA4gGoogle Street View Of Entrance On the map I think the red dot is the post code TA14 6RW and the purple dot is the entrance to the car parks and park a little further up the hill corresponding to the Google Street View link. Pubs: Prince of Wales on Ham Hill (Dog Friendly) Also Fleur De Lis in Stoke Sub Hamdon 1/2 Mile walk down the hill in the village

If anyone coming to Ham Hill wants a van window sticker before we produce the pro ones, I can laminate an enlarged version of the card. See here: This is actual size. It does look much better than this but I laminated and scanned as a jpg so there is a little reflection and distortion on the lamination from the scanner lighting. If you are coming and want one post in this thread. Edit: I viewed it on a small screen and the size did not come out right, but it is the business card times 150% on the photocopier and comes out at 127mm x 82mm

We'll be having a raffle with the usual selection of great prizes So far we have Basildog: Head Torch Me: Bottle of wine Any more offers for prizes? Post here or bring one along As the forum funds are bubbling up nicely, I thought we could do a 25% contribution to charity, say mountain rescue. Do people think that's a good idea? Let us know below.

Let us know below. Vernon, if you still have my prize bottle from the last raffle, can you add that to the prize list please. I think your idea of giving to a charity, while being very noble, will create a few probs about who to give it to. For a few years, I was finance chairman for a branch of a large charity and giving funds to other good causes always created more arguing than it was worth. Everyone has their own preference, usually based on personal experiences. Personally, I’m never going mountain climbing and would prefer it went to a children’s hospice.

I do have your bottle. Distinctive blue one. You are welcome to have it, but if you do want to add it into the raffle that is very kind of you Point taken about charities. I was on the Hertfordshire Bridge Committee for 10 years and we always spent ages arguing about which charity should benefit so I'm no stranger to the process. Usually people want to donate to ones which are close to their own heart. Hospice and Mountain Rescue are good ones because I am sure the money is well used, but I personally would wonder about some of the larger charities with their executive salaries and large overheads. But I guess we could have a poll on whether we should donate a percentage, and if so which charity it should go to.

Re donations, Typical arguments we got:- Proposal Answer Giving to old folk at xmas ---------------------------- Some of them have more money than us RNLI & other large charities ------------------------- Too much spent on admin Childrens charities --------------------------------------- Not everyone has children Cancer & health charities ------------------------------ Gov should be funding it The other point usually raised was – did the people donating/raising the funds know they were going to be given away.

We'd have to make that clear before we started or at collection time. Maybe it's all much to sort out in one week but all comments welcome here to gauge opinion

IMO, this would be a good way to donate. If a percentage of the draw takings were given to a good cause local to the meet, that should also improve the image of Mhomers in that area. With the same idea used at all meets it would boost funds and create a good impression.

I make cards could a small prize be half a dozen assorted cards? if it not appropriate that's fine (not everyone sends cards) wont be offended. I like the idea of giving to a charity I am not fussy which one but probably a smaller one as they find it harder to get funds especially in the current climate - yes we would like a sticker

That would be great, your cards are stunning. I saw the one you did for Julie, and I thought it was a professional one with all the metal foil and raised detail. I thought it must have cost over £10. I never knew you'd made it at the time! So that would be a great prize but is 6 too many? - I'll leave it up to you, but don't want to put you to a lot of trouble - even 2 or 3 of your cards would be nice.

Thank you for that as you have not seen them. Most of my cards will just have happy birthday, get well soon, or thanks you cards, I rarely put family members on but if you wanted cards for family members, then I could do what I did for Stonedaddy, a card for Josie I posted it to him. I am bringing some cards with me (as well as raffle gift) if there are special cards I can make them and post them to you or save them till we meet (I can do nice cards for the wife)

I'm going to have a trip to Ham Hill tomorrow in the car. I don't think there are any problems getting there, but safer to check it out now; it's only half hour away.

G’day I’ve just returned from Ham Hill, we went in the car. There were no problems with floods or trees down, but we got blown all over the place and the rain we’re getting now is not soaking away at all. I honestly don’t know what to advise; if you get there, I can’t foresee any problems, although with this wind strengthening, I suppose there’s always the tree risk. I’m not going to decide until nearer the time, when I can see what the weather is doing. I’ve put some info on a web page www.cdlextra.co.uk/hamhill ; I was going to add pics but daren’t get out the car to take them. Sorry I couldn’t give more cheerful news.
