Thx!
It would be better to have the slave on the outside and then a mechanical linkage, like they used to do with the cables. Must be some reason though, maybe sealing the clutch plates?

I'd like you two to explain all this to me so bring a pen and hopefully there'll be a beer mat at to scribble on! We are not talking about changing a water pump here Carol this is big boys toys and a huge job even for the professionals if the whole works needs replacing. Anyway we would spill our beer trying to read what was under the beer mat. Hope you make it OK Vern and its something they can put their finger on easily. Lifes a bitch when things like this happen out of the blue. I am about to leave in the next hour so good luck and hope to see you later ... .... Tom ....

Hehe, well I can draw out a master and slave clutch circuit on a beer mat, I wish I could fix it just as easily!
I am at the repair place now and hoping they can bleed it enough for a weekends use. I will be OK if I can get a clear run, but stop/start traffic will kill it.
I will have to get the slave cylinder and clutch kit done next week, it's going to be about £600 total.

Vern - please please do not risk driving all that way without a reliable clutch, it is not worth the risk, and think of it like this - could it cause an accident that involves others ? as I know you wouldn't waunt that. I don't really understand what the implicatons are but I am worried that something might happen to you our lovely friend

Thx But don't worry. Got here OK - it wasn't unsafe. Just had to stop 5 or 6 times to pump up the clutch and only use 2,4,6 gears - it was a very strange journey - keeping it moving all the time and cursing when traffic lights or roundabouts stuffed me at the last moment and I had to stop and stall the van. Shame you couldn't make it - great here - just had Tom's famous breakfast and preparing to tackle the mountains.

Had a great day yesterday. Climbed Hen Cloud, the tallest hill and had about a 4-5 mile round walk. Had tea in some tea rooms and saw a wonderful sunset. Then party in the pub in the evening with magic tricks party poppers and silly string (yes we did clear up our mess!). Glen and Jo and Nicko joined us late afternoon. Then champagne in Tom's van to celebrate the forum birthday - stayed up till 4.30am. But still managed to be up at 11pm for boiled eggs breakfast (Thanks again Tom - Star cooking all weekend ) Today we are going for another walk to a local lake - there's a lot to do around this area of South Peaks - nice scenery and so far it hasn't rained much at all.

What a great weekend! Thanks Vernon for sorting and leading us up The Roach. Thanks to Tom and Rob for a bit of pulling and pushing! Well worth the effort for the amazing views. Lovely to meet Glenn, Jo and Nico - a great night in the pub! Safe journey home to everyone, especially Vern and his dodgy clutch! Oh and thanks Tom for the room service!

Thanks!
Well today we went for a longer walk to Meerbrook on Tittesworth Reservoir. Had a couple in pub there, the Lazy Trout but unfortunately found ourselves trekking back in the dark through some very muddy fields and steep slopes with not much in the way of marked footpaths, although we were following the official route, it was all very poorly maintained.
We only had a couple of weak torches between us & the batteries were just starting to fail as we made it back to Upper Hume when Kaiser (the dog) pulled Tom over a 3 foot drop in the dark and Tom took a nasty tumble onto tarmac. He was winded, but able to make it to the vans, and seems OK-ish but sustained some rib pain, so he may have to have a precautionary x-ray.
A reminder of how even a simple 5 mile lowland walk can contain hidden dangers

Just shows how easily people do get into trouble when out in the countryside ?

You are so right Basildog! And it vindicates my obsessive worrying about things going wrong! I didn't go on the walk as I had to get back - although I came back to a couple of dramas myself! Have just spoken to Tom and he said he's ok but under strict orders to go to a&e if he starts feeling funny. He should be on his way now then!

Broke 3 falling over a wall ! Doc said I had diagnosed correctly and he hears it is painful then said you want the good news or bad ? He said will hurt like hell and I mean you cannot bend laugh or cough it really hurts ! Then he said we do nothing they used to strap up but it kills you as you do not breathe properly so get pneumonia ! Cheers mate !

We have bought torches - just didn't have the bigger ones with us We stuck to official footpaths including the Staffordshire Moorlands way. The footpaths had been atrociously maintained though with broken signage and also trampled by cows leaving them ankle deep in mud in places with cow pats all over the place.

Tom seemed a lot better this morning although his arm is playing up a bit. He went back and had a look and it was the higher of the 2 walls he fell from, so about 4-5 feet onto his back. I reckon he also hit the lower wall on the way down, he was very lucky! I did have a head torch, but as there were a few of us I couldn't manage to light the way for everbody, so lesson learned, take more torches or try and plan to be back before dark.
Tom's diner was great as was the Rib-Eye in the pub!
It was a great weekend, and Carol managed to meet a Bee Gee, or was it an UnBee Gee?

I also hope Tom's OK - having cracked a couple of ribs at the Brandon meet, I can confirm that it's agony when coughing and sneezing
