Another short notice meet: www.radwellmill.com/index.cfm?p=campsite.directionsAnne is buying a van (probably) from the next village, so we were thinking of stopping here on Sat night. At the moment there would be Anne's new van if all goes to plan, me, possibly Ems, possibly Carol and...? I'm not sure how much space there will be but I think we should be OK. If you are thinking of coming, give them a phone on Tel. +44 (0)1462 730 242 just to check. We are in the fields as there is a Rally in the Orchards. It is a campsite but only £4.00 PPPN if member of C&CC or £4.50 if you're not. They do charge per person, but even if there are two of you it is still cheap. Toilets and cold water on site. Very basic but very secluded and rural.

Sounds lovely, and I would have joined you but arranged to go locally this weekend. Got to get the van sorted for next week I hope all goes well with Anne's new van

Yes, if you decide to go I'll head back from the south coast and join you, do I need to call them then or did you check with me included?

I only said to Penel there were two units at the time as I didn't know about anyone else then (Wed Night) but she seemed to indicate there would be plenty of space in the fields. There's a rally in the Orchard.
I would give them a ring though; there is also wild camping very local just outside the site, but I think you'll be fine in any case.

Cool If you are coming give Penel Meridith-Hardy a ring +44 (0)1462 730 242 It's a quaint set up. Two old girls - landed farmer gentry types live in the big house on the Mill pond. They must be 80/90 years old, and they zoom around on golf buggies collecting the fees.

Maybe Mid-Day? Van is in for MOT today so I'm not sure if I need to take it back in tomorrow.

You sound very relaxed for an MOT! Probably cos it's a new van... Decided to come so see you there. And don't worry about my table!

LOL, it's not that new. 100k miles and 7 years old now. Can do the table no probs. I have a piece of timberboard so you can select which part you want for the top. Edit: I'll try to sand a reasonable edge on it, but depending on the finish I can get, you may want to take it down to the fix-it meet where someone will have a router and can probably get a pro job done on the edge. But we can cut, sand, and put your base fixing on so it will be usable from tomorrow

Sounds brill! Was thinking of staying Sunday - is that possible for you or is it too far from work?

I can stay Sunday too. And Monday or more until I have to go to Cropredy on Thurs. It's only 10 miles from work. I have to work on Monday/Tues/Wed though My Dad may come over on Sunday. Couple of good walks to local pubs available. And of course feed the ducks! (I think van has passed its MOT apart from screen washer pump and air bag light which I knew about).

We are camping very close to where it says "poultry farm" on second map. Directions from north or south, come off at J10 A1(m). Take A507 signed Baldock, turning right at Services roundabout. 500m on right after services roundabout, take road under A1(m) signed Radwell. Follow to end 500m past pond on right. Turn left through farm to field section of campsite. Park anywhere. They will come round to collect. Toilets are on left as you pass through farm. The postcode SG7 5ET in your satnav will bring you down Radwell Lane. When you get to the ducks at the end of the road, continue for another 100 yards to the campsite. I will have some A3 print outs of both OS maps. For those who want to print (or photo from screen with your camera) OS maps of the area here they are:

Don't the ducks move?

They do - it's text from the campsite not mine But they are usually by the pond near the bridge where people come to feed them. They are pretty greedy lot

I went to Radwell last night and was directed to a long narrow field to the left of the orchard. We were going to stay Friday and Saturday, however on entering the field, it was chocabloc with tents all packed like sardines with only a few spaces left. We really didn't fancy being so close together and left immediately. I hope you get good pitches!

Oh dear. Well we can try it but it sounds like it will too busy. We can wild camp at Nortonbury walker's car parks or Weston Woods instead.

But there were a lot of kids running about and very little room to manouevre. Seemed to take away the essence of the location.

I know what you mean. I'm not too fussed about kids playing, but I know some are - it depends I guess if we can get a few pitches together. It will probably be even more crowded this afternoon though.

I don't know if there is another field apart from the long narrow one which we were sent to, but if that one, you will not be able to pitch together. Well, maybe, but you would have to pitch in front of already pitched tents, who may not be too happy about it! I would make sure you all meet up first and then go and see what you think, rather than turn up one at a time and get collared for the money and then deciding to move on.
We moved on to the Pike and Eel last night, and are returning there tonight. Such a shame he won't allow meets there, although there is a layby just outside the grounds which would fit 2 motorhomes. (probably 3)

Here at Radwell. Pretty much as Rob described. Crowded, but yes we parked in front of tents under the trees. We are close together as a group, but 7m away from other units. It's not too bad here.
Me, Anne, Martin, Carol, Ems, and dogs. Phil and Christine also came earlier. Anne picked up van today - Autosleeper Legend - very nice van inside. Spacious and most things work. Interior tidy. Most things seem to work fine. Classic layout and a lot of van for the money.

SHUT HP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! {fingers in ears} I'm so green I've turned into a martian! Well done, Anne, you lucky girl. Maybe one day I'll be able to get my very own van - Neil's autosleeper is getting more trashed by the month, and NOT by me! Grrrrrr!

Good last minute meet, love the new van Anne, it was a good buy I think with only a few minor things to sort out. Hope you enjoy using it!
