s1309.beta.photobucket.com/user/daisymini/library/AMBULANCE/flue/fridgeHit a real big headache of a problem...erghhh!!!!! The big recessed groove you can see in pic 1 falls right in the middle of where the lower vent needs to go for the fridge! Ive already had to position the top vent higher than i would like to avoid an aluminium structural bar... And now it seems right where i want to put the lower vent there is an aluminium sheet behind the fibreglass panel inside...!!! Will it be ok to cut a hole in this aluminium panel?..it wont weaken the structure will it?...and also is repairing and moulding with fibreglass relatively easy? As i can see im going to have to use my artistic talents to do some re-moulding on the exterior where the vents need to go...!!!

Cut the hole and if it seems a bit weak you can trim round the hole with wood strips glued on with Sikaflex after you fit the vent.
Fibreglass easy to mould and repair with a fibreglass kit. Matting, resin and hardener. But the tricky bit is filling, sanding and getting a nice finish as in car body repairs. It takes time to sand down, refill and get a good match to surrounds.

As above, cut the hole out.Using batten or strips of ply glued on the inside will replace some stiffness if needed.

You could put it in the floor. May have to go through a lot of layers though and watch you aren't above the exhaust or cut near suspension mountings or foul anything else down there etc. It would also form dropout for gas.
The floor may not be suitable though as it is very close to the edge junction with the wall and you can't move it further in because of where the fridge sits.

Have you cut any holes yet? Otherwise if not maybe a compressor fridge would be a better bet.No big holes in the van needed.

when we did the father in laws, we vented from the floor, 2 holes covered in mesh, and a vent at the top of the fridge inside the van, the only one requiring venting outside is the flue.

Would you not get better cooling by having the vents further apart anyway? The hot air would gain more speed = more air?

Possibly hit another problem with venting via the floor, As you can see from the pic I want to put the vent as shown but the exhaust is on the same side, I was also going to vent the top one to inside the van instead of cutting holes in side of van, Do you think this is possible or is it too near the exhaust???

Hello again Daisy, The exhaust gasses from your engine will be sucked into the living area if your vent is too near the exhaust pipe outlet. You should really be thinking about putting your air vent in the side of the vehicle. You can get a kit to do this off Ebay relatively cheap and the job is very easy to do. Your van structure shouldn't suffer from any weakness. I don't know how your fridge fits into it's surroundings but providing it has an air circulation from below the fridge from the outside air, to a vent at a level or above the level of the fridge, it should work OK. It's all about getting a good circulation through the back of the fridge. Please refer to this site: www.club80-90.co.uk/pages/downloads/tech/Rm120.pdf

It probably won't be fatal unless the engine is running in an enclosed space for a long while, but personally I wouldn't take the risk with the exhaust positioned like that. Even small concentrations of CO can give headaches etc even if they are nowhere near being fatal.

without looking at it here's another suggestion ! use a cheap flexi ally tube 4 or 5 inch and connect to the hole under the floor to channel fresh air from the other side of the van !
