I had this thought while looking at Kangooroo's modular ideas for removable elements to make a van into a versatile living space to suit the occasion.
What about making a whole living pod demountable , but instead of fitting on a pick up, it slides inside the back doors of a panel van? This mirrors the idea of some building techniques where whole bathrooms and livingquarters are prefabbed offsite and shipped in as required.
Pros
You can use the van as a normal van for loads in the week. Good for people who use a van for work and only want one vehicle.
You can swap the pod to another newer base vehicle of a similar model.
Living pod can be stored in a garage during the winter and worked on while the van is used as a normal or second vehicle.
Cons
Living quarters may only suit certain types of people. Single stealth campers or couples who like a cocoon of privacy
Services may prove awkward. These could live on the host vehicle permanently and be hooked in or they could come with the pod. Different solutions may be needed fo gas, water, and electric.
Insulation is probably best under plylining in the host. But ventilation and/or windows for the pod need careful conisderation.
Internal wheel arch restrict the slide in. This needs to be factored into the layout with bench seats down sides

I vaguely remember seeing a German (I think) couple who did exactly this:- sliding a bloody great 'box' out of the garage & into their van, think it was on Y'Toob......It interested Me 'cos I was using My work van (vito) for camping in & loved the IDEA but since getting the camper, much prefer not having to clear out work stuff....vac. out (& mop!!).....put in leisure stuff.......leave home really late...........& then do it all again before Monday morn!!!

Yes, that's the one! I like the bloke in the background briefly, staring bemusedly! (Or as the late, great Bill Hicks put it, staring '...like a dog that's just been shown a card trick!') Maybe He's their Driver? Couple did just get in the back at end of vid...(maybe for diff. vid tho'!!!) If I'd only had a couple of pots of paint to remove from My Vito on Fri. night I might've thought about copying idea!
