As it's been taken over by Kraft, I suspect it's to suit the American market. Memory does play tricks, things just aren't the same as they used to be.....

I know the Europeans complain about our chocolate having too much vegetable fat rather than cocoa solids.
I prefer the European chocolate. No idea what the Americans want from their bars!

Lindt is my chocolate of choice particularly if made in Switzerland rather than France, trust me it's different! Frey is pretty good too!
