The poll question should read :
If women have to learn how to use power tools for a self build, should men have to learn how to use a sewing machine? (Sorry I messed it up, little Miss Clever isn't as clever as she thinks she is!)
And some food for thought...
Which is more difficult to use and to get a good result with? Power tools or sewing machine?
Discuss ;D

Sorry, Polls are tricky and behave differently. Not even admins can edit Polls and the question. It's to prevent them fiddling the votes and altering the question to skew things. You'll probably have to post it again

I can use both. Had a quick go with Karen's sewing machine to do my curtains. She did nearly all of it though. I did thread one up and do some stuff on one before too. It was years back though. I'm quite good at hand sewing! And very good with power drill

Linda can knit & use a sewing machine and have been known to use a power screwdriver & drill but why have a dog and bark yourself? Lee uses power tools everyday... he can thread up the sewing machine and has been known to use it once or twice since we have been married (42 years!!) Knitting is a total no no... I started to teach grandson to knit, at his request, but he got too muddled and gave up.. Linda

Threading a sewing machine (ha ha I just typed "snowing machine" cos I'm watching the weather forecast at the moment ;D) is the hardest part of using it. Especially now that I have to go and find my specs to do it

I used to be able to knit a bit. And do that funny crotchet thing with old cotton reel with tacks on the top and a long tail like snake thing comes out of the bottom. Then you can roll it up in a spiral, sew it and make table mats or you can plat them to make thicker ropes. I've quite forgotten how though, it was when I was about 7-9 years old. But I'm sure I could pick it up again.
Using a power drill is fair enough. But there are so any different power tools like routers, saws, bench saws, lathes, sanders. And so many different materials, softwood, hardwood, metals, plastics. It takes years to become proficient with all of them. I've never used a router for example.
Learning to use one power tool with good results would be about as difficult as a sewing machine I reckon. But learning to use them all is something else, just as it would be to learn all the varieties of sewing, knitting and weaving.

Although I'll have a go, I'm fairly useless with both and all power tools are locked away to keep my mitts off them.
All I now possess is an artistically painted blunt saw, a birthday prezzie from my husband 8 years ago with firm instructions to stay away from all his tools.
