a few books that turned my head as a youngster; the road by jack london, his life as a hobo on the road by jack kerouac, his life as a hobo down and out in paris and london by george orwell, general skintness the rights of man by tom paine, self explanatory the outsider colin wilson self explanatory and being a voracious reader,i then read every book i could get by these authors. jack london, who sadly can't be found in libraries any more is still my favourite.very clever bloke, shame he topped himself !

Oh well, that sounds one to look out for. Shame he committed suicide. I wonder if any of his writings can still be found on the internet?

Down and out in Paris and London was recently serialised on Book at Bedtime.....am now seeking it out in all the charity shops! Listen to the abridged version here www.bbc.co.uk/search/schedule/?q=down%20and%20out%20in%20paris%20and%20londonLondon's suicide may not have been.....just like the accusations of his alcoholism and womanising may have been a deliberate smear, his death, it seems may have been the result of an accidental morphine overdose taken to relieve the pain caused by his kidney stones.

I used to read more before the internet came along. Probably many of us are in the same boat in that respect.

jack london's 'the assassination bureau' is about 2 men on a train, one runs the bureau and will kill anyone without question for pay.the other guy is so aghast,he takes out a contract on him, which the first guy has to honour. problem i have is i never saw a film that did justice to a book i'd read except perhaps Jean de Florette et Manon des Sources

Have only read Call of the Wild and White Fang, have a copy of both which I will lend so long as I get it back. Check out charity shops, that's where I've picked up alot of classics very cheaply, and then I donate them back after I've read them.
I love books, it'll be the main thing I miss if I go full time in the van. I read every night before going to sleep, otherwise I can't sleep. Have always read alot.
Some of my favourite reads :
Into the wild Stuck between a rock and a hard place (the story of the film 127 hours) The Millenium Trilogy (Girl with Dragon Tattoo etc) The book of lost things - John Connolly The Lancashire Witches - WH Ainsworth The Plague Dogs - Richard Adams All of Tolkien's works Swallows and Amazons All of Daphne du Maurier's books, but especially Rebecca The ascent of Everest - John Hunt All of Joanne Harris's books All of Mary Stewart's books but especially the Merlin Trilogy Spike Milligan's miltary memoirs and Silly verse for kids The curious incident of the dog in the night time - Mark Haddon
and loads and loads more which I can't think of at the moment
