I've been thinking about this for a long time now, and in light of the recent horse burger fiascos it's made me think about it again.
It seems reasonable to conclude that the quality and controls on commercial pet foods will be a lot less rigorous than for human food. I know there was a major scare back in 2007 about contaminated pet food that actually caused kidney failure in dogs and cats and caused a major product recall in the US.
Does anyone on the forum make their own fresh pet food, or have recommendations/recipes that would help me give them a better diet than the bought stuff?
More specifically, it would be recipes for cat food. We have 3 cats aged around 8, 11 and 14
I've tried to find a good recipe book on Amazon, but the only one I could find with decent reviews was
"Dr Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats"
Any thoughts or advice?

Cats are a waste of time. I had two and trained them to eat nothing at all and then they bloody up and died on me.

to be serious though just find a shop that sells whale meat and ask if they will keep the heads for your cat.

Look at Raw feeding your dogs /cats There are plenty of suppliers - just google it - they usually deliver it frozen - so you need a good sized freezer - probably not the best option if your a full timer !! www.ukbarfclub.co.ukwww.naturalinstinct.com

Not sure what your problem is. Pet food has always been known to contain Horsemeat etc. I dont have a problem with human food having any horsemeat in it just the labelling that dosent say it does. In other countries they eat lots of animals we wouldnt and are very healthy its all down to your own choice.
