I know this may sound daft but I am a complete numbscull when it comes to these things and my daughter aint here to help. The remote for my TV has given up the ghost an I see that there are some for this model on sale on flea bay for under a tenner. If I buy one will it automatically work with my set? Or do I have to get it set up or something? No laughing please.

It should just work with your set. You can also buy generic remotes which will work with a range of sets. If the TV has already been tuned in etc, your remote should be ready to go without any set up process

I guess you tried the obvious things - new batteries and also holding it very close to the receiver panel on the TV?
