What does it look like, where will I get one and is it a simple job to change? It’s usually after the 100mtrs and before the egg-n-spoon race. Failing that try here to see what they look like.

Oh crikey, think I'll just get someone to do it. I thought it might be like changing a fuse!

Bring it up here and I'll work out a basic course in auto electrics so you can fix it, after all you have changed a fuse that's lesson one we can miss out

Do not mock, Mr Schopen. I had to use my powers of deduction to work out which fuse it was. I went to a shop in the village and asked, in French, if there was a garage close by. The satisfaction I felt when the windows worked again was immense!

I do not mean to mock I have a lot of confidence in your abilities and think of the satisfaction you would feel when you work out what is wrong far better than me fixing it by myself, although if that's what you want I will look at it for you.

Aawww, thanks Chris. If I locate it presumably I use the meter thingy to see if it's live? Normally I'd be picking Tom's brains but I think he'll be working on his axle...... ?

meters vary in what they can test as well as testing for live circuits they can be used to test bulbs, fuses and other components I seem to have amassed a collection of them and will sort one out for you to keep in your van.

Actually, I've got a few myself! Last one I bought from ALDI or Lidl, and is a digital one. Can't remember how to use it though! ?

They are quite easy to change really. Just one current switching another current, so four wires, two for each current. Though some have 3 or 5, the switching ones for motorhomes usually have 4. Buy them from Halfords, Amazon, or ebay. In the one shown 85 and 86 are the switching current, and 30 and 87 are the current to be switched. Usually the current being switched has thicker wires, one of which you will be able to follow directly the positive terminal of the engine battery. So having sorted out those two, 30 and 87, the remaining terminals must be the switching current. It's easy if the wires are already in place, just a case of taking off the female spade connectors and putting them all back on the new relay in the right place. Then screw the relay back on to the attachment point using a small screw through the hole on the mounting tab (which you can see in the picture at the top of the relay).

It's a very simple fix in theory but there are often fiddly little problems such as tight access, corroded terminals, tight wires, or broken mounting. And it needs to be tested thoroughly to make sure it is switching when it is supposed to.

Think the seat is going to have to come out too. At least it's been out recently though I think it was a problem due to one stuck nut. Nigel will comment when he's back, I should think.
