Just got my towball installed and also bought a trailer board: www.ringautomotive.co.uk/uk/products/Towing/Trailer+Boards/Trailer+Boards/RCT890Got this one. I went to Halfords on Saturday and the very same one was £35. Shopped around and picked this model up from Blacks camping online for £15. I think it was £3.99 delivery, but still a huge saving. I ordered Saturday and it came Monday via Hermes. This one has the extra foglight if your trailer is more than 4 foot wide - legal requirement apparently. You can buy a little cheaper, but they don't always have the extra light or a decent cable... not all towboards are created equal

If I ever see you towing a trailer, I shall be measuring it to check it it's not over 4ft wide

Is that the law that it don't need a fog light under 4' wide. I know when I had the tow car done the fog light was not done right and it had to be put right by law. The thing that isn't compulsory is the reversing lights. The tow car is wired for it but the Pr--K who wired the van decided not to add those has its not needed by law. .... Tom ....

Just checked and it's actually over 1.3m wide according to the Halford's Oracle

in real life, trailer boards are crap, with poor connections, cheaply made ,that more or less worked last time you used it,but 7 months later, who knows ? anybody with a brain, following a towed thing with a trailer board hanging off the back, knows that it could do anything, and keep a safe distance !

Spot on Nigel, ‘orrible things! I had to use them when we towed boats and the road trailer was also used for launching, meaning no fixed electrics. Bulbs were always popping because of the rattling about of the board on the trailer and in the garage and the voltage drop was huge. Can’t really see why anyone would use one on a box or flat bed trailer. If it is your own trailer it’s easy enough to wire up decent quality light fittings with wiring of an adequate size and if you borrow trailers, far better to get 2 number plates, 1 square and 1 standard and just fit one to suit the trailer ( tis only 2 screws).

They have their advantages. You can use any trailer for example. So nice to have a board to match the vehicle.
Also many of the bargain trailers on ebay etc don't have lights or are collect only. In which case you can select your bargain and go to pick it up using your board.
Agree if you get a good trailer, hard wired lights and number plate is better.
