Yep. Bloody xmas. Waste of money, time and energy. Hate it, it's the worst time of the year. Roll on January and lighter nights.

It was more fun when I was younger...
The only good thing now, is time off work and chance to see friends and family. I hate the commercialism and don't do the Christian stuff, so the meaning for me is solstice and looking forward to the new year with longer evenings.

I quite like the atmosphere in the pubs. (not so much in the town centre though!). I also love Christmas dinner with all the family, and the grandkids come round and open their presents at ours. Yeah there's a lot of commercialism, but let's face it, that's life these days, it ain't just Christmas.

I know it is commercialised year round but they make a big effort at Xmas.
After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, I threatened to call the next day "Shove your dumb marketing names up your ass" Tuesday.
It got 25 likes on Facebook and normally people don't even look at my posts there. So I reckon that strikes a chord with most people.

I like Christmas too, always have done.....not for the religious aspect, or the ever increasing consumerism but for the time off work, people giving to each and being with the few family members I've got!

I like the peace and quiet as it's usual for everything to shut down - more or less apart from bl**dy January sales being pushed at you!
We don't have a big family and I've been wanting to go help out at a soup kitchen or something for ages instead of just sitting couch potatoing on Xmas day and Boxing.
Decorated the office over Xmas and New Year a couple of years ago. Loads of jobs you can crack on with, too many interruptions any other time.

Do you still send Xmas cards... I used to. I think I stopped about late 90's when the internet came in and I could send an Xmas email instead. Now I don't even bother with that - one can catch up with friends all the time on social networks and forums.
But Xmas cards are still a big thing among some of my (older) friends. They have like Xmas card wars competing with each other to see how many they can get, and prominently displaying them all over the house. Some of them send Easter cards too!

Do you still send Xmas cards... I send the grand total of two - to my parents and aunt who isn't online. The other 500 or so get an E-card via email. With postal charges so high, it's unaffordable to send cards now but I hand-deliver to a few local neighbours. Thanks to the internet it's so much easier to stay in touch now without having to resort to the annual Christmas card and 'round robin'.

You and Neil should get the bus out drive blindly into any town, find a friendly local pub to park and spend Christmas with the locals. I bet you have a great couple of days. And there is nothing to stop you. .... Tom ....

[just hate it since i been on my own ok it was ok when the kids where little yep but since we split i hate it just upset me a lot to many memorys Barry I know a lot of people who instead of being excited and happy are sad and will be glad to see it all over and done with. Like you lots have memories of better times that won't come back. But get up and at em mate, get down the local pub and have a couple of shandies. No one gets left out when the singing and festivities start up. Not only that you could end up sat next to some lady who is in the same boat as you, and has made the effort like you would have done. She will be over the moon to have someone to talk to.Then next year you can both walk down to the pub together. Now we got you fixed up I hope to meet her at the next meet when you introduce her to wild camping and the rest of us. In the mean time have a GREAT CHRISTMAS BARRY. .... Tom ....

Oh I do love that lady's quote.......! “Honestly, I am disgusted, ” said Irene Rider, 59, from Gary, Indiana. “I was with my grandchildren. We had just gotten off the bus. I said ‘look everybody’ and pointed up to the lights – but you know what the lights said? They said f**k off. And that is not an appropriate message for a child. At least not at Christmastime.”

Thnaks for this TOM could do with a lift this time of year as am suffering pretty bad with sad on top of everything else but hey ho there are worse than me and that keeps me going Right Barry we gotta get rid of sad, then get some soothing back ache cream. Show the new Lady where to rub it with a slow massage. When the aches have all gone you are ready for all out action. Gone now is the sad and back ache, its been replaced with action man. Now we all in suspense waiting for a wild camping wedding in Western super Mare. Perhaps a christening following in the very near future. We will form an arch of gas bottles and fire wood. I've got me tie just waiting for the invitation now. Now you owe me so you can buy me a pint at Caerphilly next week .. .... Tom ....
