Does anyone else carry lots of dross in the van "just in case" ? Lol. I seem to accumulate all sorts of stuff which can be found all over the van, tools, wire, string, jubilee clips, various rolls of sticky tape, fuses, ashtrays, just about every type of hose to tap connector, tie wraps, bits of plastic and rubber tube , spare gas bottle tube, note pads , pens, various leaflets from places weve been, bog rolls, bbq briquettes, lighter fuel, spare anoraks and brollies, you name it! Must admit to feeling very much more secure with this stuff, as I could make a temp repair.

Similar list to my own. I also carry a tow strop and winch for sticky situations.

OMG! Where do I start? I am the ultimate in carrying "essential" kit "just in case"... Spare battery, dozens of spare torch batteries plus recharger, dozens of spare torches in fact. A full rucksack packed with mountaineering kit which would allow me to survive on in a snowhole on Cairngorm for a month. A library of survival books and guide books. Various musical instruments. Ropes, tools, all kinds of spares. Several tarps, tent pegs, hundreds of bungees (but these really ARE useful for all kinds of things). Bag of dry kindling, charcoal, firelighters, several spare camping stove gas cartridges, a dozen lighters plus spare gas plus Zippo plus fluid plus matches in air tight box plus waterproof matches. Wellies, walkingboots, sandals and flip flops and crocs. 2 full sets of waterproofs (in case one gets wet ;-)). Art and craft stuff in case I get bored. At least a dozen unwatched DVDs. Several different insect repellents, suncreams, hot water bottles, hand warmers, ice packs and a medical box which would keep a hospital going for a few weeks. And dog first aid kit. And various dog coats, towels, leads, harnesses, toys, treats, spare bedding... In fact, I'm seriously thinking of making a list of it all so that before packing something in the van, I can check that it's not already in there and if it is, I can remind myself of where I've stashed it. And yet there's always something that I forget to take

Lol ;D harnesses for the dogs for when on bicycle (which will soon take up residence on the ladder on back door) - google Canix cross. And also for pulling sledge loaded with firewood honest! I've got some photos somewhere. They have to earn their keep. As for high heels, pfft! I've got about as much use for them as I have for make up and sexy undies

This thread made me chuckle we bought a bigger van only 3 weeks ago to give us more space Bill says I have filled it with so much crap that we have less and I couldn't list the stuff if I tried it's just stuff we might need.

I do tend to carry all kinds of stuff in my van. Power Tools, normal tools, screws, wood, kindling, musical instruments (violin, acoustic guitar, tambourine, keyboard, tin whistle), also duct tapes etc. A complete hardware store in fact! I am not quite in @wvw 's league when it comes to bungees though, but aspiring to it! I can testify to the wonderment of outtolunch 's 1970's orange snack holder however. Very useful for those impromptu alfesco parties

Outtolunch's was very similar to this but it was orange: almost exactly like that but mine has a ring at the top instead of the ball, it's what every motorhome should have :-)

Am I getting closer !! Definitely a must have for the well honed van... if Annie gets hers out next time I'll fill them with my nuts for her... In fact this could be a theme for a meet. A retro snack holder party. Everyone brings their retro snack holders, preferably tiered, and we have a party with different types of snacks, canapes, salmon blinis etc. Lots of lemonade, orange squash, and the odd bottle of something stronger as desired

I might see if there is any interest at Rutland for a retroware canape and nibbles party.
If you want a source for this kind of stuff, I always feel charity shops are a good bet. They tend to be priced at like £2-3 rather than £10-12 like Etsy etc.
I'm sure many people pick up this stuff at charity shops and boots for £2 and sell on Etsy or Ebay for £10!

I was mooching around the Age Concern warehouse in Kendal yesterday (looking for a salad spinner for spin drying hand washed undies, swimming costume etc, can't find one for love nor money, except for over a tenner! So if anyone has one going spare, I'd be much obliged) Anyway there was loads of really useful kitchen gadgets, 70s stuff in there. Had to be really strict with myself and limit myself to spending £17 on some bits and bobs, including a yoghurt maker which will be used as part of my homemade milk fridge (pics to follow in a new thread).

Keep them clean. It will only be any use for red wine, as white wine and gin and tonic need to be served chilled.
