Rubbertramp was thinking about the C2C Northern Route a year or so ago. But I think we were doing the narrowest point Hadrian's wall area which is 70 odd miles and should be do-able in a week. Like you say, it needs a bit of planning, but we wouldn't have used packhorse or similar service. More like we would find 6 wild camping spots about 15 miles apart. Then one person each day doesn't do the walk but ferries people back to the vans or back to the start, people having driven the vans to the finish point early on. Or if everyone wants to do the whole walk then there are ways. Such as two vans drive to the finish point early each day. Leave one van there, come back in the other. Then everyone does the walk section and you'll have one van ready at the finish point, to ferry people back so they can drive their vans to the finish at the end.

Yes I would like to do this, should be great fun and I think there would be a few takers. Haven't done it before though, that was just our prelim thoughts. It wouldn't cost anything other than diesel and the food you'd eat anyway. No hotels, campsites, or packhorse services. A group of 4-5 vans needed for better efficiency though you could do it with just two.
Problem this year for me is leave from work, as I have already done the Scotland two week convoy, Farmer Phils for a week coming, plus I have to leave some for Xmas, and my Uncle just died in Stockport so need to take some time for the funeral etc.

I'd definately be up for something like this. Always wanted to do C2C but can start with something shorter like suggested and work up to it! It would be good to do something over a few days or a week to see how the logistices works with ferrying people about to vans etc. The Wales/England border is another one on my list of things to do!

I will be very. Interested to take part in this . I did contemplate doing this in a touring bicycle a couple of years back but never got round to it, but walking it is just as fun.

The C2C route passes within 5 miles of me and from experience in my previous job at Kirkby Stephen TIC, it's very very popular and I would certainly advise you choose dates in either Sept or Spring, avoiding half term. Also avoid last week in May / first week in June because of Appleby Fair - most wilding spots are either occupied by gypsies or cordoned off by police. I can advise on locations and route this side of the pennines as far as Keld.
I've got walking Hadrian's wall on my bucket list and there are buses which run the full length of that so it will be easier to return to vans using public transport.

Is anybody considering just walking it and camping in tents en route?

Probably not for me, as is too weather dependant. I wouldn't enjoy it, if it was peeing down with rain all the time.

Is anybody considering just walking it and camping in tents en route? Not this route but I have a tentative plan to solo-backpack the Wye Valley Walk in autumn or spring, subject to cool, dry weather.
