My son-in-law to be has just 'phoned me. He is out delivering for us today and has been pulled by VOSA. The passenger side indicator repeater light on the mirror is not working and he is not allowed to leave until it is fixed. They say he can remove a reversing bulb and use this if it will work. Does anybody know if it is likely to work?
This makes me so mad. My motorhome, and several million other vans, do not even have indicators on the mirrors, so why should it be illegal for one not to work! You would think they would let him go with a warning to get it fixed ASAP.

They have now told him that he only has a certain amount of time to get it fixed, or they will issue an £80 fine and insist he get's recovered. If that is the case, I will cancel all of todays orders and never go to London again. Everytime we go there we get fined for something, whether it's parking or width restriction or inadvertantly straying into the congestion zone. Sod 'em!

I have looked all of this up and yes it is the law. however, if stopped by the police you would get 14 days to fix it. Vosa give you an hour to fix it and if not fixed they will only release the vehicle to a recovery company. Vosa have now allowed him to drive to a garage and get a bulb. (He had previously walked 2 miles to a shop which Vosa recommended but they didn't have one in stock).
I just find it a little over zealous to cause all of this disruption for an indicator which many vehicles do not even have. And incidentally, it is not actually an offence to not use your indicators when turning, although it would be taken into account if there was an accident
Now it is fixed, he has carried on to his next delivery. What worries me now is, should he have gone back to Vosa and prove it fixed? He said that he can now drive, so it would only be if stopped again he would be in trouble as the incident is now logged , and Vosa didn't say anything about going back.
There is probably an APB out on him as we speak!

Somebody in VOSA has not been meeting his quota. We are being moulded in a nation of jobsworths.
