Just a thought. I usually fancy trying somewhere new, but it was a pretty good do if you didn't mind the landlady, plus I'm feeling too lazy to do any research for a different venue! Any other suggestions welcome... The Green Dragon, Hardraw, Yorkshire

Hi would do that one, as I missed it last time. Reason I missed it before was it that it was a fair trek for me and couldn't face it after driving 2000 miles round Scotland, but if the dates were right I'd try to make it Another different topic perhaps - or maybe at this venue - I would prefer to have a smaller music meet, some time, just for those who want to play and work on stuff. Like I wouldn't mind going through stuff quite a few times getting it right and the chords in the right place and the timing right. Even work on something for a couple of hours and try to play other people's stuff rather than just what I know. As opposed to the typical "music meet" where a couple of better performers are expected to trot out well practised solo party pieces while everyone else sits and listens. Even if people want to join in or learn percussion, that would be great, but participation is the key and working on stuff to improve, rather than just sit around and expecting the entertainment to be laid on. I know this will only suit a few people, but I think we have enough who want to work on things.

Gina - haven't thought about dates yet, just floating the idea, so flexible on that I know what you mean about musicians being able to practise away from the more "professional" performances, Firefox. Last year Bodgerndog and myself started practising a song on the Sunday just sitting in the camping field before we headed off. It was good and I wish we'd started earlier in the weekend, but when folks have just met for the first time there's a lot going on, and setting time aside to practise music is often the last thing on your mind! This year, if the weather is as good as last, it should be much easier to have a get-together to practise, either in the camping field or the pub if it rains. The Green Dragon has 3 or 4 (?) bar rooms/snugs, and there was a separate music session taking place on the Saturday night at the same time we were playing in the room next door. There was no real conflict between the music sessions, so it's a good venue for this type of thing.

Probably we do need a separate musicians meet rather than a music one. As we always seem to suffer from gig mentality when practising like we run through a piece once so we "can't do that one again".

I don't mind keeping going - I'll practice for hours! Have just found my tin whistle again (it was lost under my table which I have cleared out now). It's in C so I can do some simple melodies in keys of C, G, and F
August very busy for me and I think many others too. Probably late September may be a good time.

Hi vern why don't u do this at the bothy on a FMC night ,there's nothing to stop u going up stairs or the next full day & this will get the bothy some use as well, I now this is a distance for u but if u where coming to the FMC anyway u could have a few days there CHING Ching

I fancy this meet, but it depends on date. I may be able to tie it in with a Scotland trip in September.

Aye, well, I've just had another look at their website (they've got a new one) and their prices have gone up from £8 to £10 per person per night for campervans. They don't have hook-up, either, for that price. Seems a little steep to me! Thoughts, anyone?

Still people pay it ,so good luck to them but not for me As an event/rally we should be able to negotiate a special price of £8 PVan/PN £10 PP/PN is too steep. I think we can use Harefield Hall, Pately Bridge or High Marnham for £8 PV/PN for a music meet instead. (May be dogs ban problem at Harefield Hall though).

Yeah I agree too much. What about Tan Hill? Not that I've been there but sounds good!

Tan Hill is on the top of the world in the middle of nowhere - so, pretty much like the bothy except it's a pub with proper loos, alcohol and grub on tap The nice thing about Hardraw is it's in a really beautiful spot, the beer and food at the pub is good, impressive waterfall and it's walking distance from Hawes. Anyone want to give the Green Dragon a bell instead of me to try and get a discount? I didn't have much luck last year - must be my nasty manner! You might have better luck than I did. Anytime in September will be fine - shouldn't be too busy that time of the year anyway as kids are back at school etc. I honestly don't think they're too bothered about getting the custom! Failing that, Tan Hill sounds a better bet: there will be less distractions from the music as nowt but moorland for miles and miles

I'd suggest the Brownlow Arms at High Marnham. Or perhaps somewhere like Doncaster/York Way if you wan't further North than that. Tan Hill is pretty inaccessible for most; it's even a long Trek for people living in Manchester/Leeds/Derby area.

I'm trying to do more wild camping this year. The smaller meets, and not the bigger rally meets at a pub.
With a music meet it's a little more tricky. I'm prepared to get wet and cold or sit round a campfire in the rain but with instruments to consider, we really need a venue, unless we play in vans.
We did get round in Ricky's van with 3 or 4 of us playing recently and that would be an alternative at a wilding type meet. That's probably the kind of meet we could aim for if you'd like wilding. Then there are loads of places in the Yorkshire Dales. I can think of a few in Wharfedale already.
Or for a bigger meet, the Station Arms at Ribblehead. Could still wild/play up the quarry area if it is OK weather.
