If you want the finger diagrams for the Uke millie just use these. Put your fingers on the dots and strum 4 strings. Can't go wrong if it is in tune. Bend your finger tips so the last part of the finger comes almost vertically down on the string just behind the fret. The chord of G It's quite confusing with all the different chords and things you could learn, but if you just learn these 4 or 5 to start you will have a very good chance to accompany a lot of songs. 0003 0232 2010 1202 ( 2000)

Having tuned up Millie's at the recent meet and got a few chords out of it, it reminded me how fun they can be. Here's a good online tuner if you don't have your tuner with you: ukutuner.com/I'll add to this thread some posts from the recent Rudwick meet thread about basic chords and stuff.

Tips for getting a good sound.
1. Get a decent Uke (£50-100) not a bargain basement £10 toy one.
2. Get some decent strings
3. Bend fingers so they only contact the desired string
4. Practice!

I've got one but I need to rely on the tuner and I can't use that properly, so it's not been out of its case for ages.....must try harder. Trouble is, also, when the strings are new they go out of tune really quickly.

Here's a good online tuner if you don't have your tuner with you: ukutuner.com/I tried to use several online tuners for mine but they rely on having a good musical ear to spot when the notes are similar - something I can't do so I had to buy an electronic and rely on illuminated LEDs instead. So much easier!

with short fat arthritic fingers I've given up on trying to play any stringed instrument and got a drum instead

If you keep on tuning them up over about a week, the nylon ones settle down. You can also pre-stretch them a bit.

I've given up with mine. I bought it years ago to try and learn on long, dark evenings confined to the back of the van. Alas, I have no sense of rhythm, am officially 'beat deaf' so have given up and begun reading instead!

You'll be pleased to know that I've booked a trial lesson Vernon thanks to your encouragement. They will have ukuleles for sale so I might treat myself to a decent one If all goes well I will book a course of 6 lessons so you never know, I might know some songs next time we meet.
