To not go home and to stay in the van forever

1. Repair the house which I have already started. 2. Rent out the house. I want to live in the van without the support of the house/drive. I'm much happier in the van than in houses! 3. Lose 2 stone for which I'll have to stop doing so much deskwork and do more exercise/walking. 4. Looking to give up work at some stage so I can care for my dad if he needs it.

I've broken my NY resolution already, I came home last night after 10 days away in the van (7 days and nights were spent up at Shap bothy, a new personal best for me, I had previously only spent 4 days and nights there, and virtually all of those 7 days involved gales and sideways rain / sleet.
I was intending getting home yesterday during the afternoon, having a shower, restocking water etc, emptying loo, using washine machine, and then heading off in the van again last night, even if only parked a mile away from home. But once I got home (even though the house was cold and I had no coal or wood for the stove and only an oil filled elec radiator) and the TV went on, and I got playing stupid addictive Facebook bubble games, I ended up staying overnight. I have to admit, it was funny to see Diesel's (the 2 year old adopted Staffie) delight at being home, and being reunited with his own bed and his favourite toys (which don't go away in the van as they would get lost), and apart from sleeping at my feet overnight, he hasn't stirred off his own bed for nearly 24 hours now.
So having reluctantly decided to stay at home overnight last night, I was determined to be up at a decent time, and to crack on with unloading, airing, cleaning, reloading, restocking the van, and to be away again today, but I ended up not going to bed until 4am, and so didn't wake today till 1.30pm, and have been on the computer ever since, surrounded by piles of dirty washing, empty water containers, wet and dirty dog bedding, and the residue of Christmas (an uneaten Christmas pudding, half a bag of wilted sprouts, a bargain Xmas Cake bought for £1, a damp box of Xmas crackers which didn't get pulled because they were damp...)
So today is gradually slipping away and I've kind of come to the conclusion that unless I spring into action and run around like a headless chicken for the next couple of hours, I'm going to be staying home tonight too :-(
But I'll be away again tomorrow for definite - my bedroom was 7C last night when I went to bed and 9C today when I woke up which is roughly about the same temps as in the van, so apart from a bigger bed, there's no benefit to sleeping at home. So I've decided to amend my NY resolution slightly....
... to spend more nights each week in the van than at home.
If I can manage this during the winter, I know that I can easily achieve this during the rest of the year, and so, at the moment, I have to accept that I still need a home base for all the junk I've acquired, all my craft equipment, materials and stock, and to restock water, empty loo, use shower and washing machine, but that is really all my house is used for at the moment. So hopefully later in the year, I will only be returning home for a few hours every couple of weeks. Roll on spring...

To declutter my house and have it on the market by April; to lose weight and get fit; to be out and about in the van at every opportunity; to be creative; to drink less......I could go on!

I reckon it's best just to have one resolution and try to stick firmly to it, amending it if necessary, rather than have loads as it just becomes too daunting.
And if you focus on decluttering your house, you'll achieve all the others in doing so... all that lifting and carrying all the boxes of stuff to the car boot sale, tip and charity shop will make you lose weight and get fit, and you'll be out in the van more getting rid of it all, and you'll be so busy that you don't have time to drink, and decluttering the house will help in decluttering your life and head and so allowing the creativity to flow.
Therefore, just focus on decluttering the house - aim to get rid of either one piece of furniture or one box of junk or one bag of clothes each week. That's what I've been doing for a couple of months now and at first it didn't seem to make any difference but having been away for 10 days in the van, I did notice on coming back that there is a small improvement now. It still looks like an explosion at a jumble sale but there are now odd pockets of space in amongst the piles of craft stuff, DIY tools and materials, piles of books and stuff to be mended / recycled / put away somewhere as it'll come in useful one day and I can now actually get into the spare room and all my clothes will now fit inside the wardrobe and drawers, with even some spare hanging space.
Perhaps April is too short a time and so you're just putting pressure on yourself so the job becomes too big and difficult and so it's hard to start on it - by giving yourself a bit longer, say 6 months, you can set yourself monthly targets (ie one room per month, attic one month, cellar / shed one month etc. That breaks it up a little and makes each target easier to tackle.
Good luck. It's not so easy for me to practice what I preach :-(

Cheers Penny and Jess. I know it all makes sense but putting it into practise is harder. I read a quote today in an article about Kate Moss ( yes, I know I shouldn't have been reading it!) that Johnny Depp gave to her, which she lives by and I thought it was quite good. "Don't complain. Don't explain" I think it means get on with it and always be yourself.....

As with a few others, will (have already started)get a move on with various jobs around house, I've been neglecting need to do tasks. Do as much as possible internal work till weather picks up, then progress outside, 5k roof repair looming, at my cost :-(
Gable needs a lick of paint. Just a case of working through "to do" list. Then sell, we need something smaller and, more manageable.........
Can't see us getting far with van his year!!

I can relate to some of the above...
1. Declutter the house. Living in the van illustrates just how little I really need. 2. Enjoy as many trips in the van as possible. It's the 5th day of the year and I've managed two already so that's a good start. 3. Improve my physical fitness - take more exercise 4. Do some sort of self-improvement. Course? Evening classes? 5. Get a job in order to fund all of the above!

The trouble with a job is you won't have time for 1-4 I know, but without the job I can't do 1-4. It's an ugly trap! At least I got the earlier photo contract which, although it doesn't bring in a 'salary', will fund several trips around Wales and the south-west at a time of my choosing over the next 3-6 months. I just need a few more of these!

Well I just purchased my first craft stuff of the year - well Ron has bought it for me as a valentine's present and anniversary present so I did not buy them so my resolution is still intact technically
