I wonder if there are any features we can add which will make us better more and useful than Facebook.
I think we will be OK in the long run now, with our real life meets and various connections between members, but I've noticed that many other forums are really suffering with people spending so much time on Facebook or Twitter that they forget to visit their favourite forums.
Maybe we could introduce arcade games, picture galleries etc. I'm not sure it would make a difference but Facebook seems to hold people very well, considering the amount of advertising and spam you get bombarded with there, a forum like this is a breath of fresh air by comparison.
Any suggestions?

Dunno, not being a Face-Ache user..... If it's a case of wanting more to join up here, some printable 'cards' could be handy? (mentioned this forum to a great old couple in their M/H at the W/E) Tho' numbers would be ltd for real-life connections. If it's just a case of not losing existing peeps...don't think that'll happen will it? Stick up a Poll...even just to see who's actually on Faceache & Twatter!

I use Facebook but I don't see it as a replacement for forums because it's too transient.
I think they each serve different roles.

Transient - yes - Twatter even more so.
I think that's one place where we do score. Trying to find something even a couple of months old on FB can be a struggle.

This site is already better than Faceache and Twatter because I use it, but not them My son is always complaining about them - I really don't know why he uses them at all. I suppose that it's because a lot of his equally stupid friends do

I think I'm prejudiced re. Faceache 'cos Jo's always posting up where We are & photos...WHILE WE'RE STILL THERE! Why not enjoy the Here & Now, post & chat about it afterwards....WHEN NOTHING REAL'S HAPPENING!!

I am guilty as well, of too much FB I don't do the photo thing so much, but I do post quite a lot of likes and comments, mostly on pages of other wild campers. I don't post so much on my own page but I'll have to make a resolution that if I do, I'll share the same thing here too. Latest post was share of stop frame animation of engine rebuild.

All forums are full of transient people, grow or die is the simple answer make meets the focal point forget FB and twits, Google like to own you. Don't link posts to them and steer clear. Meet the needs of the membership.

I'm with Kangooro on this one. Facebook is OK for silly stuff. I have a twitter account but can't remember the last time I used it. The limit on how much you can type is a no-no for me as I suffer from verbal diarrhea Like Firefox, I find it a pain to find historical stuff on FB and gave up trying a long time ago. It's very transient and 'of the moment' - like conversations in the pub! Full of crap and fluff and a massive time waster However, I'm looking at a page for my plants and I know Jess has started a page for Shap Bothy. There are a couple of pages I look at and interact with because they are pertinent to my interests, but that's about it. Specialist and interest sites and forums definitely have a place in the world and will do for the foreseeable. But FB can't be totally dismissed - it's just another bloomin' site to check occasionally for useful or interesting info! Life: unfinished threads in a never-ending tapestry

I am a heavy FB user, but not Twitter.
Part of the reason is the campaigning I do. Another reason is because I am a grumpy old woman and I want to share that - I don't see why I should have to suffer it alone.

In the future floated stock market companies of YouTube, Twitter & FaceBook will all be bought & merged by venture capitalists. The result? "YouTwitFace".
