Is your van your only vehicle?
By the time I've added insurance, road tax, depreciation, MOT and maintenance (£1000 + a year) I reckon it is cheaper to run just one vehicle.
The downsides being differential fuel costs on local trips, and not having a spare vehicle in case of repairs or for use by a partner? What are your own strategies?
If it's your only vehicle what is the fuel consumption and length of the vehicle?

I also have a car which is far more convenient for shopping and other trips. It probably isn't sensible from a financial point of view though - I just like the safety of a back-up vehicle.

3 OLD Vehicles.....& Yes, it's prob. more expensive than 1 newer one! I could get by with the Trooper for work & chores & the Camper for Real Life but the Vito's too useful to get shot of....eg. wood-run for w/e after next!

I have just my camper which is used as my day-to-day vehicle. If finances permitted, I'd like a small cheap runabout van too rather than have to rely on others on occasions when the camper is impractical. At 4.6m and 48mpg, it's reasonably economical.
Next year my camper will probably be replaced by a small van, ideally a Kangoo or Berlingo, which will be multi-purpose for carrying loads and camping.
I've no wish to ever own a car again - only vans/campers from now on, I hope!

Its my only vehicle too and like Karen I have no wish to ever have a car again! Don't think its any more inconvenient than only having a car in terms of not having a spare vehicle, and its so much nicer to have your little home and all your stuff everywhere you go. i always keep mine ready to go with bedding, clothes, toiletries, dried/tinned food, just need to top up water and add fresh food and ready to roll

3 old vehicles. One camper, one ford focus and one Kangoo. Personally I'd like just the Kangoo and the camper, but Neil wants to hang on to his focus. I'd never have another car. Like Kangooroo I'd always go for a multi-purpose vehicle and I don't think you can beat the (smallish) people carriers like Kangoos, Berlingos, Peugeots, Fiats etc. They double as a van and with a roof rack there's not much you can't transport apart from really massive items. Even better if they have 4 wheel drive too! Life: unfinished threads in a never-ending tapestry
