I have a couple of sleeping bags, a spring/summer one and a 5 season one. Problem is that although both are great temperature wise, they are both 'mummy' shaped bags which can be a bit restrictive or even Claustrophobic for a chap of my ample proportions! I have just discovered a new sleeping bag aimed at fishermen primarily, but it would obviously also suit campers or motorhomers. It seems to give the best of both worlds and can be configured for different times of year, it is also large and wide and so would not be so restrictive; www.fishingmagic.com/features/reviews/16112-cyprinus-magmatex-3-5-season-sleeping-bag.htmlLooks good at £69.99

Impressed with the camping set up. Do fishermen often sleep out all night like that, I never realised. Don't the fish go to bed too, like sleep under a rock or something?

Best time for Carp fishing Vernon. I often go fishing for a couple of days/nights under a Bivvy. I take loads of food and a couple of crates, and if the fish bother me, then that's just something I have to put up with!

Is the idea you go for a kip overnight and just wake up if you get a bite? Fishing is one thing I've never done properly.

I've got an old mountain equipment 5 season down sleeping bag which is now about 15 years old but been washed and abused and lost a bit of filling but still good although in very cold conditions I do use a blanket over the top. It's mummy shaped and I, like Robmac, do find them a bit constrictive even being much smaller than him, and it's too warm for about 6 months of the year.
OH posted a link on t'other forum to some cheap sleeping bags from Tesco Online last year and I got a pair of rectangular 2 season (they reckon they are 3 season but I'm dubious) fleece lined sleeping bags for £3 and I've used these all year and they've been great, much roomier but really cosy without being too warm. And they look much neater when the bed is made up as a seat during the day. Wash and dry within a couple of hours. It's just getting to the point where I need a blanket on top and in a month or 2 I'll have to start using the old down bag.
My winter plan is to use the old down bag inside the cheap tesco fleece lined bag when it's really cold. I do love my old down sleeping bag but I've really gone off the mummy shape so I will maybe use it unzipped inside the fleece one or may even swop them over and use the down one unzipped as a duvet over the cheap Tesco one, but the problem with that is that being nylon and slippy, it slips off during the night and I wake up cold with the dogs all cosy snuggled up in it on the floor.
I've got a fleece thermal sleeping bag liner too which is good but it's rectangular and so inside the mummy bags, my feet get all wrapped up in excess fabric.
So much hassle just for a good night's sleep!

I don't like sleeping bags - too restrictive- and I have some strange dreams in which I may need to fly and do things!
So it's two duvets for me. I always get a good night's sleep. Duvets are great if you have a think insulating mattress underneath which is possible in a van.
You can lie on top of both, lie under one, or lie under two so there's some temperature regulation,

I have a 5 season RAB down bag, problem is with down bags (not so much in motorhomes but when camping) is that if they get wet, they are next to useless. Mine is rated down to -30, but if the tent leaks, or you get really heavy condensation, you may as well be covered with a wet newspaper!

We do what Firefox does. Carry at least 2 duvets, one summer, one a bit warmer. Sometimes I take 3, much to Neil's disgust! Never, ever been cold in the van and usually only need one duvet on top, unless it's minus temperatures. The skinny duvet packs up small and sometimes we use it as an undercover on the van seats wgen they're made up as the bed - a sort of poor man's mattress topper - but mostly I use a really good quality big fleece throw instead of a bottom sheet We generally roast to death!
