When I got my van the wardrobe had a bit of a musty smell. Since then I have scrubbed it out several times and burnt incense in it but it hasn't faded atall and any clothes in there smell slighly musty after a day or two. Has anyone got any ideas on getting rid of it? It is made out of wood - well that old camper van type wood which might not actually be wood!

Have you checked for damp or mould?

Sounds like it could be damp still getting in. Most likely places on a panel van is the flashing to boiler flue or rooflight, or perhaps a roof seam.

Thanks for suggestions, i will check it out carefully, not aware of any damp though, nothing in there ever feels damp even if left in for ages just picks up this musty smelllike its ingrained in the wood... maybe its the wood smell, maybe i could paint it with sealer?

What is the construction. Presumably faced plywood liner, then insulation then the metal of the van. You could drill a small pilot hole to see what was behind.
Other possibilities include drying out with electric fan heater or maybe dehumidifying crystals

bi-carb of soda in a cup or similar is good for absorbing odours, also salt or rice for absorbing damp. i'd defo have a good root around to see if there's a leak, or maybe condensation, has the wardrobe got vent holes, if not might be an idea to get busy and create some.

Hate to say it Anne, but that is how my problem started (musty smell in cupboard). I would definitely try and expose some of the framework behind the ply lining and see if there is rot. Maybe then you can treat it before it goes too far. (Fix it meet perhaps?).
