I think I need a new name for it (not sure if its a he or she yet!)!
So far so good, I've managed to light the fridge and the heater so I'll have cold beer and we can keep warm! I've not tried the water heater or pump yet, its taken me all day to work the fridge out! I've never used gas things so a bit nervous of them. I also need to get a bottle of gas as the one in the van doesn't have much left and no paper work so I think I need to buy/hire a new one?
A couple of oil leaks to fix and lots of wiring to work out so I'll be busy for a bit! Covered 80 miles today and it plods along fine, I need to build my arm muscles up for the steering! Gears have to be fished for but once you know roughly where they are it goes in fine, I'll be looking at the linkage as I know its a weak point on these and its fairly simple to sort out (hopefully!).
Hope to see everyone at a meet soon!

You can just swap the old one for a full bottle....no paperwork required, unless you want to get a second for a spare then it's just a case of filling in a form and paying the deposit. Build yer muscles up? You're a rough tough engineer from what I recall....man up girl

Hi Ems do you know about this calor light thing? I'm all new to the gas thing but if you're having to get a new bottle look into it. One advantage, apparently, is that it has a gauge so you know when you're running low. Sounds like you know what you're talking about anyway!

No, I've not heard of the calor light thing, I'll look into it. I know a bit but only from what I've read online and in the manual! I like to do my research and any advice is welcome! I think I have room for 2 bottles so if I can get the old one refilled I need to get at least one new one.

You've lost me here a bit gals! Calor lite is propane and is a lighter bottle than the usual ones (uses lightweight steel) but as far as I am aware it doesn't have a guage. Are you thinking of Gas-lo or Gas-it Carol - these are refillable systems which you can have a guage for as an option.
What bottle do you already have fitted Ems? Go-Outdoors do most types and you can do a straight swap. You will need the right regulator though for butane (blue bottle) or Propane (red bottle - better for cold temperature).
I'm sure you know all this , so sorry if it sounds patronising!

Its blue - that's all I know...... and looks quite small! I've just settled down to watch F1 so will have a proper look at it tomorrow eve!

If it's blue it will be Butane. This is fine but doesn't burn in minus temperatures. If you plan to use the van in the winter, get a propane bottle (red) and a propane regulator which is a 2 minute job to change. Or bite the bullet and go for a Gas-lo or Gas-it system which is propane and you can refill at most garages these days. This will cost you a couple of hundred quid, but if you use the van a lot, it will pay for itself as the difference in price for garage propane is much lower than bottle replacement.

Hi Rob old hippy showed me the calor lite bottle he'd just got and it does have a gauge on it. And yes it is propane. And no-one thinks you're patronising when you're being helpful! Every little bit helps!

Every little bit helps! I think I showed you my calor lite bottle as well. They do have gauges of sorts... not brilliantly accurate. They cost more to buy and refill. But if you refill your own, it's the same price so there's only the initial outlay which is not that much as I remember, less than £10

I'm hoping to bring my Dad down to Greywell, Ems... killing two birds with one stone I would if my Dad would go near the camper, I think he is allergic to camping! He will only stay somewhere with an en suite and a proper bed (I've tried to convince him the camper has one!), however he does not do camping, motorhoming etc! He'd rather be at home, my Mum loves it though and has always done camping, she'd have a motorhome if my Dad would. She'll be joining me on some meets, I can't stop her!

I have gaslow...the gauge is pretty useless. More or less it can tell you if you are full or not full. The way I work it is to use only one cylinder at a time...when it runs outs, I manually switch to the other cylinder and it is time to get a fill up when convenient.
LPG (eg Autogas) is a mix of butane and propane, rather than 100% propane. I will guess that that LPG bought in the south of Italy will have a higher proportion of butane than, say, LPG bought in Sweden.

LPG in the UK varies but my information is that it is 90-100% propane depending on season and supplier. To all intents and purposes it is propane and you can use it with a propane regulator.

I can't find any definitive information (so where is it coming from?), but the figures I hear bandied about are between 50% and 90% propane, but that might be across Europe. /shrug Can't find out for sure.

Yes, depends on country, 50% to 90% would be across Europe. Greece etc may be 50/50 butane/propane.
