Anyone into horses and ponies, riding, maybe showing or competing. We have the animals of different sizes, its been a few years since I rode but Sue rides every week and we do the odd show now and again, these photos were taken at the Ilfracombe horse show yesterday as you can see it was a splendid day, still sunny today despite the forcast of rain Sue on the right with the smallest of the three an apaloosa pony "Dakota"

I used to ride badly and my daughter rode fairly well - how well I remember the days of boxing the horse and driving to stand in the wind the rain at horse shows. Daughter used to compete regularly and I competed a few times just for the craic. I gave it up as too expensive and because my legs never got strong enough! Looks like a grand day out, there!

This is something I'd love to do. I did a short course in the Trossachs years ago and have had a few goes since riding along the Black Mountains, then my last session several years ago on a kiddies open day at a Forest of Dean riding centre - only I didn't spot it was for children-only. They found a large horse for me, let me join in the fun but the following day I could barely move. Great fun though and as Pollik says, good for the thigh muscles but prohibitively expensive.

Did a few sessions when I was young. I love horses and all animals but it is a very expensive hobby unfortunately.

Lovely photos Wildman... and you had a gorgeous day for it too I used to be crazy about horses as a child and went for lessons fairly regularly between the ages of 8 to about 15/16. To this day I have no idea how my Mum and Dad found the money to let me go... it must have been a big sacrifice to them back then, bless them. Eventually exams and all the usual teenage distractions got in the way and I've only ridden once or twice since. Still love horses though.

I suppose we are lucky as we have never had to pay for grazing and vet bills have been very low over the years, I have kept horses since I was 20 and sue has been riding since she was 8, come to think of it I was around 8 when I first set out to capture a wild pony, well I thought it was wild anyway. Then some local teenagers let me ride bareback and I never looked back. We currently have three of various sizes must get the cart out this summer and do some driving. I remember driving a pony and trap into ilfracombe 25 years ago and tying it up outside the job center whilst I went in to search for a job. That was fun, hee hee.
