Soon be back on the road. I put the van on SORN when the tax expired at the end of February so that I could start some updates and repairs that I have been planning. The first job is now well under way with a fresh water tank installation under the wardrobe which had been wasted space. Although the area under the wardrobe had an access panel it was pretty much useless because the hanging clothes above made it difficult to see into the void below. I had thought about this and decided to make a fresh water tank with outside filler cap and electronic gauge to tell us how much water we had on board, this would free up valuable space taken up by two 22 litre water containers. Started this week and in between 'other' jobs I have managed to construct the tank and fit the filler cap on the outside of the van drill through floor and fit overflow pipe. Now ready to fit the electrics and install the old submerse-able pump down into the tank (Tank made from one of these 80 litre clear storage containers fitted into custom made box.) So out today to get a bit more done. Hoping to get this done, another cupboard built and a new reverse light switch fitted then it's taxed up and ready for the road ASAP.

Sounds like a good tank. I find 50-80 litres is more than enough fresh water. I have one 25 litre tank in the shower/bath room and one 25 litre under the sink.
Both with submersible pumps... which seem last about 3 years before water gets in them. Almost a consumable item! I must buy another couple of spares.

I wont be using all 80 litres, the overflow is about 60 - 65 litres high. I intend to run about half full and when I am where I want to be for a couple of days or so, I will add water to suit. Saves running around with all that weight but allows a good two to three days water supply. You are correct with the submersible pump theory, they do only last about 3 years, I have made the connection in the lid of my tank with a non-return valve so I can easily replace the pump as it will just pull off the pipe and the 12v connection is a plug-in.
