I got caught speeding in a fiat 500 doing 40 through a 30mph with 4 of us in it! The police were extra busy raking back money spent after she'd smashed the miners' strike

I was mainly at Uni (82-85) and then first job after that. I don't remember a great deal about her apart from the Miners, the Poll Tax, council houses, and the Falklands. Spitting Image did a good puppet Some people proposed a State Funeral for her. I don't think that should happen, we can't afford it!

The same memories for me: Poll tax, miners strike, privatisation, yuppies, me-me-me attitudes while also at Uni (1984-88).
Definitely no State funeral. The country is skint and there are higher priorities and more needy causes.

I was in the RAF during the Falklands war. My term of engagement was due for renewal afterwards and opposition to the war was the season I didn't sign any more of my life away. I remember having to keep very quiet during that time of Anti "Argie" hysteria. So all in all, Mrs T did me one great big favour!

Left school in December 79 just as Maggie got going. At the same election David Myles(Conservative Party) won Banffshire, where I lived, from the SNP. On my 18th birthday I recieved a birthday card with a coat of arms on it from David Myles. Never met the guy but thought it was a nice touch. Met my wife in 84, she came from Wigan. I remember being in Wigan 85/86 and everybody hated Maggie because the pits had closed. I also remember everyone in Wigan being poor and the place being an absolute dump!! When you see Wigan now even the best commies must think deep down that the best thing that ever happened was t' pits closed!!

BBC1 - they were in Grantham outside the shop she had her first job in. It's now a chiropractors and the local being interviewed said "it's a cracking business" He didn't even seem to realise what he said

I don't approve how the miners were handled. A lot of the pits were coming to the end of their effective working lives, so they would have close at some stage, but it was done in a heavy handed and abrupt fashion without enough support for the communities it affected.
Another policy I didn't agree with was selling off local authority housing at cheap rates. It bought her short term votes in the working classes and some income, but it has left a serious shortage of affordable housing. It was akin to pawning the family silverware... almost a criminal act with no thought for future generations.
She died in the Ritz Hotel. Says it all really. Still spending shedloads of cash on waste while young couples struggle to buy into the housing market,

Still spending shedloads of cash on waste while young couples struggle to buy into the housing market, I was young once...and it was a struggle!! We just qualified to get a mortgage at the 3x main wage + 1x other wage and scraped together enough to buy one of Maggies knock down local authority houses for £16170 Kept it for the 3 years and sold it for £32000 Thanks Maggie I now live in an ex council house...bought at the going rate though!!! And I should have another within a month if all goes to plan Therefore I cant knock Maggie on the housing sell off. Though I do agree on principle that it shouldn't have happened but I wouldn't be where I im today if it didn't And as for young couples struggling to get on the housing ladder....its supposed to be a struggle!!! It always has been if you have no money

Thats so funny Mark, really made me laugh! Now I might not have resented my hard earned tax going towards the funeral bill if it had all happened like that!

Oh well, I'm glad it's all over. I was never a fan of hers, but some of the vitriol and hate was getting well out of hand. She can't answer back now, so let her rest in whatever peace she can find.
