The main run of Salmon happens in march in Scotland, so I'm told. Not usually free but a bit of discrete casting in the estuaries of the less well known rivers could bag one or two! Ramsons (wild garlic) are abundant in sheltered wooded valleys at this time. Stinging Nettles....very tasty at this time of year...full of vitamin C and Iron. Pick the top three leaves. I knew of an old boy in Newton Abbott some years ago who used to thrash himself on the back with Stinging Nettles. He said the formic acid did his arthritis the world of good!! Watercress is still about in southern climes. Sorrel in the hedgerows....makes a lovely soup
