Just bought a new van - P reg VW t4 - and in need of auto electrician as I can't do stuff myself. Can anyone recommend someone in the West Yorks area or suggest how I can find a good one?

Are the problems major? What are the problems? Maybe with some help you can fix some of the issues?

Hi. The van is green. Got problem with ignition and I think immobiliser. Drove it home and turned off engine and it wouldn't fire up again tho all lights on. Also, leisure battery doesn't seem to be connected to mail battery so only charges when hooked up to mains. Hoping the ignition isn't going to be major but VERY, Very disappointing. I paid for an inspection as well! Don't think they could have picked that up - he did start it up from warm.
It's a t4 like my other but has heating and different layout so ideal - hopefully! Help!

does it turn over but not catch, or not turn over at all? The leisure battery will be easy to sort out once it's running, just a couple of wires.

I've made the default VW avatar Green for a while in honour of your new purchase!
Hope you get the ignition sorted. Maybe install a smartcom relay so you can charge while driving? They are quite easy to bolt on.

Just remembered, I think if the immobiliser is faulty the van will start for a few seconds then cut out, been a long time since I've worked on one though, which engine is it?

Thanks for comments and thank you Firefox for my lovely green van!
Nothing happens at all - lights on but not a tick as tho the battery is completely flat - then it might work. So far ok when cold.
Re leisure battery, it's actually in a cupboard at the opposite end to the battery. Does this pose a problem re wiring? Also, I'd like to have a solar panel if that's possible. I believe you can get free-standing ones? Is there something on at Brandon about solar panels??
Still no suggestions for an electrician....

Can't help with a sparkie as I'm in the Deep South!, but fitting a panel is easy enough and won't need to cost you a fortune.I'd recommend a fixed one on the roof ,less faffing ,fit and forget. All the materials can be sourced quite cheaply.Ideally you need to match the panel size to the output of the LB. eg 100 watt panel with 100 ish A/H battery.
Do you know what sort of charging system you have fortune LB ? Split charge ?

I've just had exactly the same thing with my van, it was a bad battery earth on mine, I thought the starter motor was on its way out, just start at the battery earth & double check all the connections, can you contact the seller & ask? it may be something that failed in the past & they thought it had been fixed. Thinking about it, it's more than likely a faulty connection/wire, once hot it's becoming more flexible & loosing connection
The wiring from the starter battery to the leisure battery shouldn't be a problem, my leisure battery sounds like it's set up the same as yours, someone will be able to link you up with the correct split charge set up, mine was already fitted although not connected when I bought my van, so I wouldn't know what to point you towards.

Could well be a bad earth. Often with that you get a faint click as the starter solenoid operates but the earth connection can't carry the heavy starting current.

I was having that exact problem on starting ~ all dash lights ok but just clicking on turning over (same as at Harefest ), it was a dodgy earth off main battery, and the positive terminal connection was loose too. Am wondering if that's why I was losing all juice from battery within 2 days, have had no problems since.
