www.smartgauge.co.uk/batt_con.htmlHere's a link I've found very useful. It shows how the load is much better equalised if you connect a certain way. When connecting just two batteries, go for diagonally opposite feeds - ie Don't take Positive and Negative feed off the same battery. Take the positive off one and the earth off the other.

Cheers. Can you believe I forgot this the first year I put my batteries in and took the feeds off the same battery/ Although I did have a secondary earth which went off the second battery, and also the control panel/distribution board has got another thick earth connection on it, so maybe I was Ok.
After the distribution board, everything is dual cable to the loads (ie I don't use common return through the vehicle body). It's more akin to boat wiring. I reckoned with possible condensation and corrosion, local earths were more vulnerable to failure in the long term.

I've earthed all my circuits back to the fusebox rather than the van.I know that Ive used more cable but I know where all the earths are for fault finding.

That's the best way to go I think. I used 10 amp dual core speaker cable for most of mine. 10 Amps is fine for most caravan 12V appliances and fits in well with a 5 amp fuse.

Ive been searching forums how to link twin batts after problems with flat battery so now going to have 2 LB that link helps me solve problem also saves me posting asking for help thank you

Interesting read - I take both feeds off one battery, so probably worth swapping around. Would it also be better to put solar panel connections to different batteries?

Hi John, Best to connect Solar to same terminals as load connections all as per Smartguage advice foe equal charge and discharge of batteries in bank. Alec.
