trouble is its a house thing, still chucks out carbon monoxide but in a good size room it would get diluted by fresh air enough to not kill you. in a van it would

ok www.excelamerica.com/calentadores_eng.htm as i understand,it does give off co1 like any gas appliance, but has a low oxygen switch so when it detects low oxygen levels it shuts down.does this mean you could be taking in c01 for a while, and is it accumulative?

I might have to make a call to the states on this one.The price is amazing for what you are getting but i will not put myself or Milli on danger if there is a slight risk. They need to explain a little more on why they can say this is suitable for campervans etc.

Ok here is the response i got from them:
Hello,
Your campervan has to have an active ventilation system for you to be able to use any gas appliance such as a range or this unit , this means fans to extract porducts of combustion or open windows when in use. Otherwise lack of oxygen will trigger the ODS safety device and turn it off.
Thank you,
- excelamerica Hmmmmmm im still thinking about getting one of these. There is no standing pilot light and it wont be on all the time. What i am thinking though is maybe having something like a computer fan as a small extractor and even without that i have a skylight that can be kept open and will be getting a carbon monoxide alarm which will let me know if any problems.Dunno add that to the ODS seems pretty safe to me.

I've got a Fiamma extractor fan so it would work with that. Those fans are very useful for cooking fumes in a small van and you can get them to blow air in so you have air conditioning for hot days too.

having read all this, i think calling this appliance flueless is misleading people into thinking that it can't harm you,and it can be put safely into small enclosed spaces, without further precautions, which isn't so.in fact it needs an extractor fan, more or less the same as a flue !

Not worth messing with really! No point having a heater if you've got to leave all your doors and windows open!
Don't risk it unless you're sure.
EDIT; I see. It's just a water heater. Even so, be very sure!

It is American - stuff is usually a lot cheaper over the pond if the shipping costs aren't exorbitant.

just got an e-mail off john cross motorhomes advertising calor gas room heaters, with an ODS but noticed he says ideal for the home and doesn't mention using it in a van.maybe he knows something or the regs are different here !

Post by X on Nov 27, 2012 17:13:07 GMT
Yes the regs do not allow any fixed flueless heaters in any caravan or motorhome . I will try and find the relevant bit later but I do know this to be true . Also never in any area that is shared living and sleeping . As far as I am aware this would not stop you from doing it yourself in a self build but I guess you have to ask why would you go against regs that are written to protect life !
