Owning a camper and being a wild camping enthusiast means I don't go on sites very often but when I do I am dismayed by the amount of money charged.
I recall recently asking at a reception what I might get for my £30 and they seemed aghast that I would ask, but I was told I got fresh water, a peaceful place to park overnight, a laundry, shower, fresh bread, milk, eggs and newspapers in the morning and wi-fi.
The laundry was a coin operated washer and dryer that worked out at £8.60 for one wash and dry. The fresh things on a morning had to be paid for and wi-fi was a heart stopping £6 per visit!
In 10 years I've only failed to find water once and it cost me 12 euros to buy 75 litres of bottled water which I transferred to the main tank in minutes using a pump. I've never failed in any city in UK or Europe to find a laundry, and most are quite cheap. I have my own internet sorted but I'd have to be pretty desperate to pay £6 for wi-fi. And of course I have my own shower on board. A peaceful night is usually had, but tbh I've sometimes had noisier nights on sites than I have wild camping.
Emptying waste tanks wasn't mentioned but I've found a lot of private sites will let you empty for a couple of £'s and some even let you fill with water for another couple of £'s. Club sites won't let you do this but private ones sometimes do.
Some sites are not just offering a pitch there are all the services; kids play area, a clubhouse, shop etc etc and for some I can understand that but others where all you need is a pitch are charging silly money. Is it only me that feels this way?
