Ems&Beau I still need to give you your ticket for Dogfest - I will pop over if you are going. I think I need a break from weekends of house clearance and putting rubbish in black bags!

Probably won't make it until Saturday Central heating has packed up and plumber should be coming around tomorrow PM. I think it's just the pump but, as the system dates back to 1979, I'm expecting it to be scrapped. Boiler is also on an interior wall which, I'm told, is no longer allowed, so a major revamp of kitchen will be required

Never ceases to amaze me how many stories and myths there are about boilers and positioning flying around it is all a money making scam ! It was all changed in 2012 but the rules were that any concealed flue had to be inspected or a suitable co alarm that triggers a boiler cut out is installed. Modern boilers and flues are in a totally different league to old systems and can easily run up to 20 metres if installed correctly . One new rule is that a flue cannot run through a neighbouring property as was allowed before but you can have a boiler just about anywhere these days .

Sorry I'm not going to make it. The garage just called. They put the new clutch on and gearbox back on and the clutch popped off so they've got to take the gearbox out again and it won't be ready until Tuesday now :-(

It was my neighbour that told me about outside wall, as she was told by the British Gas engineer - probably 4 or 5 years ago though. Plumber still hasn't turned up, so I'll see what he has to say about it.

Sounds a bit strange to me have you used them before. A clutch is fitted and ready for 100.000 miles and more. I can only think the cable popped off but they would not have to take the gearbox off again for that. I think yours is hydraulic anyway. Hope its OK next time they do it. .... Tom ....

They showed me the old clutch and demonstrated the problem, although hard to explain and no extra charge even thought the gearbox has been in and out until they got it right. Its a 2 part bearing/fixing and something to do with the way the clutch works they couldn't get it to click on. It went to Mr Clutch who I've used before and would recommend them again, used them for cambelts, gear boxes and clutches at various different braches and always had a good service and comes with warranty. Very informative and kept me up to date with problems they came across, its not a new van (13 years old) so I anticipated a few other bits might need doing or would be seized. They said its not a problem they've come across before with this type of clutch.
All good now and ready for Wiltshire and Dogfest :-)
