Here's what I am thinking Penny but as I don't know where this strange place is, is it possible to go to the Halloween meet then to the other Bonfire meet then to your Bonfire meet. Need to know where this big pit is I am assuming its in Wales but is it north or south I need to work out the miles.

Blaenavon is just a few miles outside Abergavenny and Big Pit is a former coal mine open to visitors with free underground tours by former miners. Close by are the redundant ironworks, also open to visitors with no admission fee, and the filming location for the 'Coal House' BBC tv series a few years ago. Both are interesting venues for a free day out with lots of scenic wilding nearby.

As everyone else is having birthday bashes I think this should be mine! I'll be in Iceland (the country not the shop) for my birthday the weekend before (travelling alone) so this can be my social birthday. I usually don't bother celebrating!

Ok the best I can do From Abergavenny, head out towards Llanfoist along the B4246. Keep going through the village and on towards Govilon. At Govilon take a left turn, signposted Blaenavon. This takes you over the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal, around a couple of tight hair pins, and then a steep climb brings you up the side of the Blorenge mountain. There are some good views looking back across the Usk valley, but try to keep your eyes on the road ahead as there are often sheep wandering across the road. Keep going past the Cordell Country Inn (named after the local author) until the road begins to level out. On the left you will see Keeper's Pond, then take the second left (the first left takes you to the pond). About a mile along this road you will come to Foxhunter car park on the left, opposite some big radio masts. We will be in either car park depending on numbers It is on the Abergervenny road from Blaenavon to Abergervenny rough post code NP94SR look for the two telephone masts !
