Am thinkin of a meet at Greywell Fox and Goose pub on the 19th of September then carrying on to Stonehenge for the autumn equinox on tuesday the 23rd ? Great pub at Greywell fre camping and fires allowed but please us the pub for a drink or a meal or two . Some can do both or either as I know many cannot do midweek meets . Will post more details if any are interested ?
This maybe the last time for camping on the drove at the stones as rumours have it that English Heretics are nw using the back door to finally shut the droves as has beentheir dastardly plan for years ? Any body up for this at all ?

Regrettably we won't be able to go that weekend. Himself is off to the Lake District leaving me to entertain cousins from down under....
We plan to go to Greywell the weekend before (12th ) after the Severn bore midweek meet.

I would do Greywell the weekend before, but a bummer for me this year Equinox is midweek Somebody, somewhere has got to slave away to pay for the MP's expenses accounts and champagne It is just me at the moment. Oh well, maybe next year.

Where does the rumour come from about the droves. They can't shut them that easily. Last time there was a public enquiry which found in favour of keeping them open. It would be even more difficult to go against the inspector's decision.
There's always lots of rumours among the varied lot that frequent Stonehenge but I'd take it all with a pinch of salt till one sees hard evidence.

He said it is going to parliament so maybe a letter to the local MP ? They want it closed and it would not suprise me them taking a back door route to achieve their goal at all ?

My local MP would not be too interested as it is not really a constituency matter. My MP is a bit of a NIMBY. If it's not a personal or local matter he kinds of squirms away from it, or claims he is not an expert in that field.
But lobbying the secretary of state for transport may be more relevant, which I did last time before the public enquiry.

I don't think they will reply to me. MP's only reply to constituents, it's somewhat of a fraud!

Only 2 ways into the drove at Stonehenge now so either you come off A303 but remember you have to turn around at the roundabout if aproaching from the east . Or head to Larkhill and find Willoughby road which turns into the drove if you keep going .it is a right turn if coming in from Amesbury after the packhorse pub ,look for the medical or dental centre . maps.google.co.uk/maps?psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.74115972,d.ZWU,pv.xjs.s.en.2Tixjos8Mew.O&biw=1348&bih=616&dpr=1&wrapid=tljp140959255946010&um=1&ie=UTF-8&fb=1&gl=uk&sll=51.1952961,-1.8223845&sspn=0.0206545,0.0439461&q=Willoughby+Rd,+Larkhill,+Salisbury+SP4+8NW,+UK&sa=X&ei=7KwEVOf_Ka7o7AaPiYD4DA&ved=0CCAQ8gEwAA

I'm going to try and make Greywell at sometime over the weekend to catch up with you all. Won't make Stonehenge though as, like Vern, I too have to work

Charlie I may be up for these as I go on the road tomorrow and head north to the bangers and beer thingy at Kirby Stephen. From there its back down Gloucester way for the Seven Bore meet which ends on the 14th. I will make my mind up for sure while I am there and see if I can still walk and drive weather to carry on down south. Watch this space. .. .... Tom ....

I thought I'd stuck my name down for this, think I did it on the other side! I'll definitely be at Greywell and should be able to make Stonehenge too :-) Having not been to an equinox before am I right in thinking ( from reading Vern's post) the equinox is early Tuesday morning so I could be back at work on Wednesday 24th?

Am here parked on the byway now. The place is eerily deserted of campervans. Access still available by turning left only off the A303. Just cycled up to Larkhill and that road is clear although at the Larkhill end someone has placed large concrete fence posts and a couple of tree trunks at either side of the road. Ready to block access at a moment's notice? The gate, although open, has a lock and chain attached to it and is not overgrown with vegetation so am guessing it is closed at times.....no-one around to ask

Seeing as I'm still darn sarf and have no urgent reason to head back to the far flung north, I'm thinking of joining you at Greywell next weekend and then on to the stones for solstice. Hopefully I will get those long awaited fire written plaques done for Millie and Mrs Basildog.

I doubt I will be there now, unless Julie makes a recovery very quickly. I'll see how she is tomorrow, but cannot leave her on her own at the moment, in case she needs another transfusion. She had one last week, but didn't keep it very long!
