My feed is full, not of things happening to friends, but people sharing "cute" viral pictures of animals or similar.
Let's see how many shares this cat can get. Translation = Let's see how much income we can generate
These vids and pics are put out almost exclusively by commercial organisations in a bid to gain traffic, likes, and shares. The people sharing the pics don't seem to realise they are providing advertising for these organisations.
The whole thing has become a sharing, liking, clicking, money grabbing, hell hole

That's one me thereasons I've closed mine, although it can't ever be deleted, only not published, so the data will always be there.
I don't like the way Facebook and google work together so that your every move is tracked and made public. It is possible to tweak settings to give more privacy but this needs to be done after every update.
And I was wasting too much of my life on it. I really haven't missed it much at all in the past 2 weeks, except for sharing photos and letting people know where I am on my travels. But my blog here will solve that issue.
Good riddance I say. The world (and particularly this country)is becoming more Orwellian day by day.

Polly, Hippy, and I tried out Retroshare peer to peer last year. It uses PGP and provides Skype type interaction. While very private, it doesn't have the functionality or visual appeal of either forums or FB.
One insidious thing I found out about FB recently was that if you type stuff into a box, but don't publish it eg Hidden or on a private unpublished page, they can still capture what you have written.

I have been looking for an alternative to FB for some time, without success.
I both hate it and love it...I love it because it is very good at the things that I use it for.

I find it is good at keeping in touch with people I don't see a lot.
But the camping and outdoor friends, I can keep up with here fine... it is better than FB. For those who don't do forums or who don't like the outdoor life, FB is better than Xmas cards or those occ phonecalls.
