Anyone know where the best places are to park and view horses at the gallops in the early mornings? Want to take swmbo to see them, and also going to the race horse museum this coming weekend. Thanks

Dunno Rod....bit tricky parking up that neck of the woods, I've had to resort to parking outside an Ind. Unit (The Guy who re-winds Pump Motors for Me..) when in N'market. I'll ask Him b4 w/end.

Go on the Moulton road heading out of town East, up Warren hill and both sides you will see the gallops. There is loads of parking on the left towards the top as you head out of town. You can watch the horses from the van or from the rails 7.30am onwards. goo.gl/maps/N1bCKAlso the Severall's Trotting rings on the A1034 Bury road, just on the left as it heads NE out of town. Different vantage points here goo.gl/maps/uJW9Yand here goo.gl/maps/XiIYu

Cheers, there are other places, like Newmarket Common, the National Stud and gallops round there. But Warren Hill reckoned to be one of the best due to the great views both sides and the easy parking. The whole place is festooned with studs and stables and gallops, but not always easy to find them or easy to park like Glen says!

We went yesterday to Newmarket.Plan was to visit the town and the museum, then go to watch the horses this morning.Museum was very interesting and not nearly as boring as I thought it would be! Alas they dont run the horses on Sundays on the gallops, so it meant we came home instead of staying out last night.Looks like we will go back there next weekend.

Whoops, I should have said they don't do much on Sundays. It's why the advent of Sunday racing was so much of a shake up.

Lol, no probs. In one of the sections of the museum is a mechanical racehorse that you can ride.We declined the offer as it looked a bit knackering ! In this area is also an ex jockey looking after the horse rides and general stuff.Alf is such a great character and full of life for a 79 yr old! He had lots of stories to tell and was really funny with it.He was riding the gallops until he was 73, until Addenbrookes put a stop to it apparently.
