We went to our Daughters in Brighton and decided to overnight at Beachey Head .We have stayed here quite a few times and its a very peaceful spot. This time though we were awoken at 3.45am, by a big noisy Diesel engine ,which seemed to stop right next to us( we were parked at the far end of the carpark). In the middle was a French plated T4. At first I thought it was the old bill and waited for a knock on the door. They stopped and got out and started talking in Northern accents. Then they restarted the engine and shunted about. After the fourth time of stopping and starting the engine,I decided to get out of bed and look out the window. It was pitch black and all I could see was a big lorry with a picture of a feckin big pigeon on the wind deflector!!Anyway in the morning we got chatting to them ,and they had left Lincoln at 5pm on Friday and arrived at Eastbourne at 3.45am Sat morning. They kept starting up and shunting to level up the lorries( yes there were two! ) so that the water for the birds 4,500 flowed around the cages. At 8am they let them go and drove straight back to Lincoln !

Wonder if they were the same birds that shat all over my van at Lulworth Ranges in June last year. They didn't arrive that early tough. Attachments:

One of my pet hates that, people running engines at 8am. OK if it is for the birds I guess, but some people seem to think it is clever to idle their engines for 30 minutes before setting off!

we lived on an old airfield which was a release point for pigeons, and it was great for the kids to stand a few feet from the side of the lorry when they released ! often we'd have pigeons wandering around ,with addresses and phone numbers stamped on their wings.naively, first time we got one i phoned the owner, who of course wasn't very interested in a bird that was too stupid to find its way home ! he asked if minded 'necking 'it !

Yes it was a great spectacle to watch,as the doors opened and they all piled out. There was one left at the end,he didn't fancy the trip back to Grimsby apparently ! Can't blame him really.

I'm not allowed to overnight at B/Head!.....1st time I took Jo there, She saw the flowers placed commemorating those sad souls who'd stepped off into the next....She said that She'd walk back to Eastbourne & book into an Hotel if I insisted on staying there for the Night!
