I am up for Scotland but having worked out mileage and fuel costs might do Europe instead ? Also like the heat and to be honest when you have seen one hill or one tree you have seen them all ? A bit like castles really ! Maybe a bomb down south for a bit of sunshine if anyone is up for it ?

Also like the heat and to be honest when you have seen one hill or one tree you have seen them all ? Or beaches When I was on one of my I hate people trips several years ago I decided in my wisdom to walk down all the mountains I skied down in Bulgaria ! Got lift to the top then off the idiot goes ! Nearly killed me I could not walk for days ! 15 minutes on ski`s 3 hours on foot and hot too ! Did the idiot take a drink or wear walking boots ? Cold beer was good at the bottom though !

I can get down most stuff maybe not always pretty but get down without falling ! I got a mate in Bulgaria he told the others he has ski`d bit ! They challenged him to a race ! As he disapeared down the mountain backwards I told them he was an ex Olympic skier in the lake placid 1980 Was funny to watch !

It would have to be Europe for me,just on the off chance that there may be some SUN! This country seems to be sinking deeper in water at the moment!

I tried to interest people in a trip to France last year but ended up going by myself. I'm definitely going again this year so I'll watch this space!

I've found travelling in convoy just doesn't work, the idea's ok but not in practice ! and now you understand why I've never been to Scotland ! it always lost the toss !

Convoys do work for some, cos we tried it successfully last year. But I guess you have to be of a certain mindset. If you want the flexibility to drive off into the sunset at moment's notice it's better going solo.

If you want the flexibility to drive off into the sunset at moment's notice it's better going solo. Even in a convoy you can do that too. In the convoy last year Anne and I had a phrase we kept chucking out, which was, "each to their own" . We found it funny at the time but if you're travelling in a group it works best if you can co-operate as a group whilst giving space to everyone' s idiosyncrasies and individuality. I think it worked for us last year....

Yes you can do that too. Jen liked to get off early sometimes and go to do her own thing, but with a mobile phone you can always join the convoy later or on another day. One trouble is in Scotland phone signals are patchy.

I agree with Nigel, it wouldn’t suit us at all; we’ve travelled with others before and found it too regimented. We tend to head “in the direction of” and if we fancy popping off to look at somewhere for a couple of days, we do it. I can of course see how it would appeal to some folk, who would be glad of the company and prefer a pre planned route.

Funnily enough we didn't have a pre-planned route last year. We just went up to Scotland with the vague intention of getting up to the North coast and seeing how far we got. People decided they wanted to do stuff on the way like Carol went off to see a friend for a day and a night, or some of us went round Loch Euwe gardens, or Jen went off with her dogs somewhere. We decided where we were going that same day mostly, so regimented or organised was the last thing on our minds

Oddly I don't remember the agenda ever being an issue when we did the Scotland convoy, it just seemed to work out that we meandered along from place to place pretty amicably. mostly deciding where to head for next together depending on what ever we fancied. Carol was disappointed that we didn't get to Skye, but apart from that it genuinely did not feel constrictive, I also hate organised agendas and always prefer to be spur of the moment rather than regimented. Although that didn't suit Jen who wanted to be up and off, but that was fine and that is what she did, once she learned to forget waiting around for the rest of us to surface!!

Wildcamping Cons for much of Europe: Distance/Fuel Ferries/Chunnel Payage/Tolls Languages Exchange Rate/Euro Different gas adapters etc Kits/stuff needed in van for regulations Police who do what they like Local WC rules that need learning Strong Sun (sun block needed) All can add up to many extra £££'s Great if you have the cash, but Scotland cheaper for me Having said that, I could be persuaded to do France as distance not too bad, I can get by in the language, sun not too bad in the North, and I like the food there Edit: I also love NL. Great people who usually speak better English than the English, nice food and very relaxed. Have been there a lot but not recently. Not sure about WC there though, I think Leo (Belgian) was an expert on locations.

I think I heard Ange and Vern discussing the fish preparation on New years day in the Pub when you were having your meal. I went to Holland for a month it was fantastic the people were really friendly. Wild camping is not allowed but we used the Camperstops Europe book, it has plenty of places for camper vans a lot of marinas have hook ups showers and toilets and are a lot cheaper than campsites. A lot of towns and villages allow you to stay overnight in carparks. I love Scotland and the Islands too. Would anyone be up for a trip to Ireland in September for the Lisdoonvarna Match making festival thats a brilliant week of music. I don't mind where I go but prefer going out side school holidays when places are not so busy.
