Yes I really did put Diesel into the water tank ! Complete idiot . After several flushes with loads of fairy then bleach it still stank so decided to go for broke as really was thinking it was a new water tank and pipework job ! Poured 5 litres of Autosmart G101 a type of industrial degreaser into the tank then filled with water and drove for 200 miles . Flushed that out twice with clean water then a fill with Milton fluid and yet another fresh water rinse ? Now drinking the water again and showering lucky escape I think as hate to think what the cost of a new tank would have been !

Yer daft 'aporth!! Glad you recovered the use of your water tank, though. I once put diesel in my motorbike tank, so I am not going to tease you too much!!

Not what you want especially at this time of the year. Must remember not to have any tea when you offer .

Martin says what were you thinking of? Don't answer that, we don't want to know! Are you up north for New Year? If so catch up with you on your return, need to get out and shake the cement dust off!

Looks like you were lucky and not too much stuck on the plastic. I wasn't sure you going to be able to clear it!

Many moons ago I worked in a garage, the owner had a Ford Cargo horse float. He was away moving his daughter horse and when he returned to the garage he pulled up at the pumps, told the shop lad to fill her up. This horse box was well done, little doors everywhere for water etc. Now if you know cargo lorries youll know thw oil filler/dip stick is behind the cab....petrol lad opens the flap and put 50 odd litres of diesel in to the engine!!! Tells boss thats it done. Boss drives lorry no more than 20 yards heading for the yard...BANG, a conrod out through the side. Boss comes back in, god that was lucky that I made it back, the lorry just blew up. Lorry had to have a new engine fitted... To this day the boss doesn't know the lad filled the engine with diesel, it didnt even click when there was a giant pool of diesel/oil under the lorry.

A mate of mine bought a new boat a couple of years ago. I can't remember exactly how much, but it was 70k+. It had 2 filler caps for the diesel so that you could fill up from either side of the boat. The first time he used the port side filler, he stood at the pump, thinking, god it's taking some fuel. After about half an hour, he gave up and went inside the boat to get his wallet, only to find himself ankle deep in Diesel. The port side filler had never been connected up! After much legal wrangling, the makers agreed to pay for repairs, which was a complete refit of the boat, and I think it had to be done twice because the boat still reeked of diesel after the first refit. They would have been better off writing it off!
